Jeff Coe (Jeff968) lives in CT, not sure how close to Milford, but you may want to reach out to him.

Welcome and good luck,

Thanks for the feedback. More info on the car in question - a new odometer is installed and has not had TC/waterpump done for 30K, and the records are in process of being located. Anyone close to the Milford area ?

Is there a picture that I can see of Aventurine Green ? My 968.net status doesn't allow me to see much of anything yet.

lol - first, we aren't .net, so that won't help much

second, check out the tutorial - it will explain a lot about member levels and what access you will have and when - as you become more active, you will gain more access

third, check out the member map for members near you

then, start a thread in the Buyer's Guide area to discuss a considered car

Unfortunately my friend was unable to check out the car this past weekend. If anyone here is nearby Milford CT and wouldnt mind taking a look for me - I'd be eternally grateful. I have an 89 944 Turbo S that had a rear end altercation with a wall (at Road America) so it looks like I'll be parting her out. And yes, I'll much much more carful next time out.

Update:
A friend looked at the car last night - thanks Jeff. I am passing on the car since I have too many projects right now. Got to get rid of the Turbo S and Turbo shell that are sitting 'unfinished' in my garage.
Good news it has LSD. The car had some paintwork on one side and it has been sitting for a few years, and a few minor cosmetic bumps/scratches. Records are 'somewhere' the owner is an older gentleman - his son/daughter are helping him sell it. The car needs a good cleaning. Mechanically the car drove nicely although since it doesnt have plates it wasnt possible to drive it at highway speeds. Its a good car on balance. Its on Craigslist in CT.

I've located a 968 that I am purchasing long distance. I am in IL and the car is in the University Heights suburb of San Diego.

I am hoping that a fellow Rennlister ideally experienced with 968 cars would be able to take a good look at the car for me as soon as possible before I send the owner a check.

I'll make my one way flight reservations as soon as I get my work schedule rearranged but I'd likely get out to SoCal on the 19th/20th to drive the car back home to IL.

The owner seems very straightforward in all our conversations and is willing to work with me. We have the same bank and will likely involve both bank branches so I think the sales transaction will be cool.

Again - I really appreciate hearing from someone who can help. Goes without saying that I'd be truly grateful for the long distance support.

Please leave me a message here or PM if you wish to help. I can also be reached on my cell 847 539 9969 or directly by email stevenerwiz@sbcglobal.net.

Hi Steve,

I am in the San Diego area and have some time, would be willing to help.

I've owned my 968 for over 3 years now, but honestly I cannot help with much of a PPI. I could take a look and give some general impressions however. I just don't know the cars well enough to do a good check-out from a deep mechanical perspective.

My strong recommendation would be to get a Pre Purchase Inspection from a local Porsche shop. I bought my 968 locally, got really lucky from that perspective. But I asked the seller if he would be able to drive it over to a shop for an hour or 2 so they could do a PPI on it. That seller agreed. This avoided the whole problem of giving me the car for a PPI, the seller brought it there, I paid, and got a FAX report and discussion over the phone. Was about $150.00. They do real thorough check.

The one I would recommend is Black Forest. They've been around forever and are quite good at the older Porsches. Originally all 356 and 911 based, they have done years of 944 and 968 work. http://www.blackforestautomotive.com/. Ask for Jeff, tell him Roland suggested it. He still knows me after over 20 years of bringing Porsches there, not the only shop I've used though. He knows my 968 also. They are in Kearny Mesa, quite close to University heights. And then maybe you can schedule a couple of minor maintenance items before the long back to IL.

PPI is a very good suggestion. In the next few days I'll be getting all the service records from the dealership that performed all of the maintenance. I understand that the pinion issue was addressed and that the car has a new timing belt and waterpump - all done by a Porsche dealership very recently. I really do appreciate the offer to take a look at the car. PM me a tele number where I can call you. I will be speaking with the owner tomorrow.

$150 is totally reasonable and if Black Forest can check out the car for a pre-trip checkout - that make a lot of sense. I will give them a call this weekend.

Just wanted to let you all know that a deal is in the works - deposit paid and balance to be paid when I pick up my new 1994 968 next week in Arizona.

I've been in contact with the seller for a few months when he's had it on an off sale but we struck an agreement this past weekend.

Lucky me, I will be going to Arizona on business next week and driving the car home to Illinois.

Car is white coupe with blue interior, alas no MO30 and no LSd but a suspension upgrade will be in works in the near future.

Again thanks for everyones support in this long and strange trip. I'll be sure to post pics on the way home.

If any Phoenix area 968 folks want to get together sometime next week I will arrive on Tuesday and leave on Friday.
