moving slowly lately?
#1

just to let you know what goes on in the background, i've been watching the server over the last month and it has been continually bogged down - i thought there was something going on at the provider, but it turns out it was our site

there was over a gigabyte of spam in our filters - that's about what we take up in total real content - this was completely bogging us down - it has been removed, and steps are being taken to pursue the offenders

so, if you think for a minute that any of the filtering, controls, or steps people must go through to gain access are unnecessary, think again - this is an ongoing issue that is not getting better

we are doing what we can

In any event, Keep up the good work.

That explains a lot of my time out issues!

I'm glad you managed to sort it out. Thanks for the hard work to keep this site tip top.

lol - no sooner did we fix that problem than another one popped up and crashed the site - i think that one is fixed now, but we are probably moving up to a better server tonight

things may be up and down for the next day or so as it all gets sorted out - trying to get this all done before we do the next software upgrade

I was worried this morning that finances might be a problem but, if so, figured you would soon be pursuing a Federal bailout. Of course that would also mean a 968Forums czar.

Aren't there laws for this crap? Spammers provide a link right back to their site so you know who it is. We had a company abusing our fax machine this way.Wasting our paper and tying up our resources throughout the day with grandfather clock and insurance offers. We called and asked to be removed but they kept sending, we then threatened with legal action and then they stopped. Obviously not so easy with spammers but the same damage is done, wasted resources.

well, that would get you to the first step - the problem is that it also originates from people who want to trash a site - it's actually pretty easy to send spam email to a site remotely

that part has now been eliminated

we still get spammers trying to register to the site, but i am hopefully successfully filtering those out on a case by case basis via all the steps one must go through to gain access

TRUE. Well, until they release that software that detonates the spammers computer, keep up the good work Flash.
