new member saying hello
#1

Hi all,

I'm a 914 and 944 owner, and now I'm on the hunt for a 968.

I'm looking forward to owning one, sorry I don't have any pics to share yet!

Good one!  But what's with the black square between the spot/fog and indicator lights?  I've seen it a couple of times but am not sure what it is for.

Now you just need to find a 924 and you'll have the whole series....

Really! But I don't have one so now I'm going to feel nervous/exposed next time I'm allowed out Sad Sad

I had a 1966 MGBGT, lovely original car with chrome bumpers. The US version just didn't look the same. It had rubber bumper strips on it and the ground clearance was an additional couple of inches; definitely changed the appearance.

Our bumpers are a great life saving and damage saving feature, they withstand impact UP TO as much as 5 MPH !!

That's about the speed I'll be going at by the time I'm allowed out again Sad I haven't driven for over 4 weeks, and I'm sure there's plenty more lockdown to come. But this is Garm's theme so I'll butt out now.

Great looking 968!    Do you know what wheels and what size those are?   They look very similar to the 18" Fikse FM5s I have on mine!

Great. Enjoy!

There is a third red back light. Is it also an US mod, as those bumpers?

Yes - all US spec 968 coupes have a 3rd brake light like that - it's a federal requirement on all cars here since the late 80s or early 90s.

Interestingly, I just noticed that my 968 does not have the front bumpers between the driving/fog lights and corner (amber) lights that garm's does - see my profile pic for example.    Might be another mod one of my cars previous owners did - will need to see more US spec 968s to figure that one out.  ;-)

They are euro front lights and indicators

and I would love one of those third brake lights, only to fitted USA and Japan cars and all the parts are NLA

I bet postage from the USA would be stupid money

On the cabriolets it was a GM unit that was also used by Cadillac.

Great thread, nice to learn about the car. I have a 3rd brake light on my '86 944.

And yeah, a 924 would be the trifecta -- but would I drive it?

here is a pic from two owners ago. He confirmed the low mileage. Yes the wheels are Fikse FM-5  forged. Very light; nice perk!
