New member in San Clemente, California
#1

Greetings all. My name is Tracy Brandt, I live in San Clemente, CA. and I'm relatively new to Porsche ownership. I own a 1993 968 M030 coupe. I bought this car from a good friend of mine who acquired it in 1995 from the original owner. The 968 had 17K miles on it when he purchased it in '95, and 77K miles when I bought it in June of this year. Now I have to say I had admired this car for several years before I bought it from my friend. When he first told me he owned a Porsche 968 and that he wanted to sell it, I no idea what a 968 was. 924's, 944's and 928's, yes, but I'd never heard of a 968. Then when I saw the car for the first time I was really blow away by it's design, it didn't look like anything I remembered from the early 90's and I told him he was crazy to sell this beautiful machine. So from time to time over the years, my friend would drive his 968 into work, take me for a ride to Starbucks and tell me that he was "selling" the car. Yeah, well, "selling" his car comprised of washing and detailing the car to a concours condition, putting a FOR SALE sign in the back window, carefully putting the car back into the garage and closing the garage door. Using this strategy, he could successfully say to his wife "of course honey, the 968 is for sale". I would always admonish him that he should never sell this car, it was too darn cool and unique. But when his oldest daughter finally turned 18 and going off to college, he was in a bind. He had two Porsche's (the other a Boxster) and no car for for his first-born to drive. So I would say to him "dude, do what you gotta do man, but whatever you do, don't ever sell that car!" Now the car belongs to me.

Although I'm new to Porsche ownership, I am not new to sports car ownership. Starting from my first car, a 1969 MGB, when I was 16, I have owned many Alfa Romeos, which I absolutely love, and a few other less notable sports cars over the course my life But now I'm looking forward to learning more about 968's and Porsche's in general as leave the land of 2 litre Italian beauties and start a new adventure into the land of this awesome 3 litre German precision driving instrument. After all, you gotta keep life interesting, and what a better way to do it than in a 968 M030!~

Tracy.

Great introduction, and you are a very lucky guy to have a pristine M030 Coupe.

It takes a couple of posts to get to "full membership", but that should beeasy with all the questions you are probably about to receive.

Our Own "Flash" is a former MG guy and Lives just North of you. Watch for local events, his are great!

Cool - another OC 968 - welcome! Once you poke around here and learn more about your car, you'll be very glad you live so close to Flash...! Hope to see you at the next local 968 event, or at Cars & Coffee, which we occasionally hit.

Thank you for the welcome. Yeah, one of these days I need to go to C&C, it's just being anywhere at 7:30 AM on a Saturday morning is tough one for me... However, although not exclusively a 968 event, I am planning on driving the PCA-OCR Julian Tour a week from Saturday. Hopefully some of our other 968 comrades will show up.... Thanks again for the welcome. -T.

TB, you have to post a picture of your car and send me a couple at jeffery.coe@snet.net. I've only heard about your and from Jay above who probably doesn't realize which car you own. Anyway, here are the details:

#995 of 2,234 North American 968 coupes

#346 of 605 1993 coupes

1 of 117 coupes painted in N7 Amazon green (5th most popular color)

1 of 1 coupe (and cabs for that matter) painted Amazon green and paired with a Magenta interior!

Great options including, metallic paint, VE partial leather in Magenta (only 4 coupes had this interior color), M030 sport suspension (1 of 99, 1 of 5 amazon green M030 coupes), 220 limited slip, 383/387 sport seats, 403 17" C2 Turbo (Cup 1) wheels (standard with M030 package), 498 rear emblem delete, and 595 body colored painted rear spoiler.

You have a unique and interesting car there with great options.

Best of luck with it.

Jeff

Wow! A magenta interior, I've not seen that before. Although, I understand that a lot of the guys who started out with Classic Gray interiors are ending up with a magenta interior, too, due to sun damage.

Just out of curiosity, who owns #968 of the 2,234 North American 968's?

very funny Tama ..but sadly true ...those of us with grey interiors watch the window sills convert to brown with the passage of time.

Tracy's interior also started out grey, but just turned Magenta from a couple of days exposure to the nuclear plant practically in his backyard ;-) :-). Just kidding Tracy, welcome to the group.. ! Hope to see you at the Paso Robles meet.

I remember your car. I almost bought it from a gentleman in Chino Hills about 5-6 years ago IIRC. The car was very unique with the AG exterior and Magenta sport seats. In fact, had the interior been black, I would have bought it. Congrats on a GREAT car!

Wow, nice work Jeff, you have very accurately described my car right down to the emblem deletion and the painted rear spoiler. I didn't know about these production numbers though, that is very interesting, thanks for researching this and sharing it, it's good to know. I suspected that my car was the only one painted Amazon Green with the Magenta interior - 'cause nobody in their right mind would ever order such a combo (I'll have to hunt down the original owner, I think it was a lady in LA). The first time opened the door to this car and got in it I was really taken aback, "yuck!" I thought. But, I admit, over time it had grown on me and now I absolutely love it, mostly because it's so different that what you typically see, especially with today's cars. I am really enjoying it, thanks.

You know, not only does this car have a cool paint job and far-out interior, it's now starting to glow in the dark - just like me. Something about plutonium... I was just up driving the 968 around Paso Robles last month with my wife. I particularly liked Peachy Canyon Rd. I'd love to do it again.

Good, I'm glad to hear that, it is the most unique part of the car and it would be a shame if it was changed. Please send me some pics.

Thanks
