Greetings all. My name is Tracy Brandt, I live in San Clemente, CA. and I'm relatively new to Porsche ownership. I own a 1993 968 M030 coupe. I bought this car from a good friend of mine who acquired it in 1995 from the original owner. The 968 had 17K miles on it when he purchased it in '95, and 77K miles when I bought it in June of this year. Now I have to say I had admired this car for several years before I bought it from my friend. When he first told me he owned a Porsche 968 and that he wanted to sell it, I no idea what a 968 was. 924's, 944's and 928's, yes, but I'd never heard of a 968. Then when I saw the car for the first time I was really blow away by it's design, it didn't look like anything I remembered from the early 90's and I told him he was crazy to sell this beautiful machine. So from time to time over the years, my friend would drive his 968 into work, take me for a ride to Starbucks and tell me that he was "selling" the car. Yeah, well, "selling" his car comprised of washing and detailing the car to a concours condition, putting a FOR SALE sign in the back window, carefully putting the car back into the garage and closing the garage door. Using this strategy, he could successfully say to his wife "of course honey, the 968 is for sale". I would always admonish him that he should never sell this car, it was too darn cool and unique. But when his oldest daughter finally turned 18 and going off to college, he was in a bind. He had two Porsche's (the other a Boxster) and no car for for his first-born to drive. So I would say to him "dude, do what you gotta do man, but whatever you do, don't ever sell that car!" Now the car belongs to me.
Although I'm new to Porsche ownership, I am not new to sports car ownership. Starting from my first car, a 1969 MGB, when I was 16, I have owned many Alfa Romeos, which I absolutely love, and a few other less notable sports cars over the course my life But now I'm looking forward to learning more about 968's and Porsche's in general as leave the land of 2 litre Italian beauties and start a new adventure into the land of this awesome 3 litre German precision driving instrument. After all, you gotta keep life interesting, and what a better way to do it than in a 968 M030!~
