New Member '92 968

Hi Everyone,

I am John from Grass Valley, CA. I have a Guards Red '92 968 Cabriolet

with about 97K miles. I bought it in New Jersey in 2002 on a business trip

and had it shipped to Sacramento as a weekend driver. I briefly belonged

to a Porsche Club and enjoyed weekend events with my girlfriend. When

she passed away from ALS in 2007, I pretty much let everything go including

the 968. I have remarried now, and my interest in the 968 has returned. I

have just had the A/C retrofitted and recharged, which hasn't worked for about

3 years, and am now looking for someone to fix the cab top which has a

mechanical problem (heard something "snap" while trying to put it up 4-5

years ago. Had it repaired a few years before that by a dealer, and remember

it was expensive. Also had some of the interior upgraded in 2007 including

black piping on the "cashmere" seats. The inserts will need to be replaced

soon, so would appreciate knowing source/best solution to that issue.

Looking forward to contributing to the "boards"!

Welcome John.  Nice to hear that you are "back in the game".  Be careful with the top, there are some unobtainium parts in there.  If its been sitting that long put new a timing belt in right way, they don't age very well and a broken one is very expensive engine repair - 4-5 years max between replacement. There are some other "while you are in theres" that should be done as well.

Pm me when you get a chance. I have a great mechanic in Reno that you may want to meet.

Welcome John,

I had a similar experience in my life, glad that you were able to bounce back.

A 968 will help immensely to lift your mood if you're having a bad day Smile
