New Bosch Injectors
#1

We Did some back to back tests on a car with modded airbox and K&N
Stock Injectors w above mods = very lean from 2K to 5.5K then ok (Stock Chip)
RSB Stage 1 chip w above mods= good A/F 2k to 6.5K
New Bosch w above mods =a bit lean from 2k to 4.5K then good to 6.5k (Stock Chip)
New Bosch w above mods and RSB Stage 1 chip = a bit rich from 2k to 4K good 4k to 5.5K a bit lean from 5.5k to 6.5k
New Bosch needs extra O rings due to location in 968 Intake.
Injector O ring should fit in middle of injector port which is only 7mm deep

I'd ask for further clarification but if my injectors are changed it will be you doing it.

I don't play much in the rich/lean - good/bad arena. Given the above data what is the outcome in laymans terms. I have the RSB stage 1 and the K&N; am I looking for the optimum results of "a bit rich from 2k to 4K good 4k to 5.5K a bit lean from 5.5k to 6.5k" for a 968?

LOL X3

Pete-
I dont get it.
Where exactly is the benefit of new injectors?
From the way I read it, its best to keep your old injectors and Stage1 chip to avoid the lean issues.

that's why i love this site - it's like "mythbusters"

finally - some real testing - you rock - i figured something like that was what was really going on - looks like they are not what they have been touted to be - i feel sorry for those who jumped in prematurely

note on fitment - i am not a fan of monkeying around with fuel seals - that can lead to tragic results

i'll stick with the stock injectors

I know that there was a huge discussion about this over on RL. I never got the impression that there was a clear winner. So, in my mind better to stick with stock. One less thing to worry about on my old baby.

yeah - swapping stuff out without somebody doing some controlled testing is never a good idea - just because something "looks" like it's better, does not always make it better in performance - just because something might work better in one application, does not mean that it will work in another either

pete and i both have a boat load of parts that "looked" like they should work, or worked in a different application, but did not work on this car - it's the nature of the beast, but just shows that you have to test things to see if they work

thanks pete for doing that testing

but that is exactly why we have this site too - we can all discuss things, try things, test things, and share the results, whichever way they turn out, all without the politics or bias found elsewhere - sometimes showing that something doesn't work is just as important as showing something that does

I was considering buying the new Bosch injectors at some point but probably won't in order to maintain stock PCA/SCCA classification for my car.

In either case, all that this data really tells us is that K&N filter + ABM with a stock chip is very lean, the RSB chip is tuned for K&N + ABM so the mixture is good, and that the RSB chip is NOT a good choice with new Bosch injectors. I'd be more alarmed by the very lean mixture resulting from the air filter and ABM than the mixture reported for new Bosch injectors.

For someone to truly understand how these injectors perform, wouldn't they need to be installed and tested on a stock 968 or with software tuned for these particular injectors?

At this point the new injectors will work ok with Airbox and K&N mod only
I didn't see or feel any advantage but I would need to tune specifically with them to clarify.
So basically you have a bunch of RL guys installing parts on their cars with only the Vendor saying they are better than stock.
In theory yes-but reality- not at this point
Depending on what Airbox, filter, chip, exhaust-results can be all over the place.

Just so I understand, at this point in my car's life (15 Years, 76,000 miles) my best bet would be to send my original injectors out for cleaning/balancing, as opposed to any other solution?

Probably between that and a run rite (its been 20k) my car would perform much better.

Until I have the chance to tune new injectors and see if there are any advantages- Stock with correct chip to match modifications is best.
I pity the people that just threw them in- they no not what they have and unless they added correct O ring there is a chance of air leak and very lean condition

Any symptoms that would suggest a too lean AFM?

Just Sluggish low end performance-Seems to have an excessive intake roar also
It could trigger knock sensors. You need bosch hammer to see how many times dettonation occured
