Just took delivery of '94 coupe, 6 spd. Red with black interior. Previous car was an '87 944S. 968 is very smooth in comparison. Love it so far.

Thanks, I'll be delving into the tech sections of this site. Drove it from SLC to Yuma yesterday. I'm surprised at the mpg this gets, 28-30 cruising at 80 with AC on and smooth power. Much better than the '87 944S.

comments like these highlight that, despite a similar styling, the 68 and 44 are truly different cars.
Enjoy

After owning this car for three months I just drove this car from Yuma AZ to Maryland, what a great ride! Before leaving I had Stuttgart Southwest in Phoenix service the car with new timing belts and tensioners. Jack was awesome (one of the most honest, knowledgeable, and professional mechanics I have ever dealt with) and they do top notch work. When I move back to Arizona they will have my business for any service I can't do.
Trip was fast, covered 2,900 miles in 2 1/2 days, managed to get stopped by the cops a few times but was not issued any tickets, let off with a warning each time. The car is not the most comfortable, a bit loud on road noise and tram lines pretty bad but overall I loved this car during the trip. Cruised at 80-90 mph most of the time and got 26-28 mpg. (One thing I liked about Texas, 80 mph speed limit). Avoided the storms by traveling through the southern states but still hit a little ice through South Carolina. The one damage I sustained was a rock chip on the hood which was painful but I can live with it.
I will not hesitate to take this car on a cross country trip again.

Sorry to hear that Thumper, sounds like you got the Grinch and my cops were feeling the Christmas spirit.
None of them even asked for registration, just driver's license except for the New Mexico cop who asked for insurance and license and none questioned why my vehicle tag/driver's license/insurance were all from different states. They probably deduced (correctly) that I am military.

Where are you stationed and what service? Lots of military in the 944/951/968 ranks... Watch the 3-state rule, some states will nail you for that one.
Congrats on the purchase. Oh and I never get 26-28 mpg in my car...

Don't forget to have belts re-tensioned soon, supposed to be checked after 2,000 miles.

Welcome to the Forum and a BIG Thank You for your service. We all know you have a great car. Watch out for the ice on the roads. Hate to hear you got into a fender bender.
Cheers,

Thanks everyone and Roger on retensioning the belts. Is it unusual to get the kind of mpg I was getting? I got 450-460 miles to the tank before filling up with 16-17 gallons. In town I got around 22-24 mpg.
I am Army, got out of active duty not long ago and now in the reserves and work as a civilian engineer for the Army.
As for the winters I'm not planning on driving the 968 in the snow/ice but I'm looking into the Conti DWS or Bridgestone RE970 AS tires to replace the aging Michelin Pilot AS I have on the original 16" wheels.
I have not seen any other 968 in the Baltimore area besides a race car at SSI Motorsport. Would be fun to talk Porsche with some folks there.

I'm in Bowie MD. About 30 min away from B-more. Pat aka Porsche dude live out that way. When I worked in B-more he would come out and meet me for lunch. Great guy but I think he's driving a BMW now.

JTP the fuel consumption on these cars is very good. I can drive from the SF Bay Area to LA on a single tank, distance of about 425 mi.
