New 968 Owner
#1

Hi all! I live in Springdale, Arkansas and have enjoyed owning and working on Porsches for about 15 years now. I've owned 3 early 911s, including a 1972 911S, and two early 944s (an 84 and an 85). I currently own a 1970 911E with 2.7 MFI engine which is in the middle of a repaint, and two 914's which are stripped down restoration projects.

I just purchased my first 968 two weeks ago. It's a black coupe, 6 speed, with tan interior. It's a two owner car with 85k miles, no accidents with all original paint. It does have some deferred maintenance that needs to be attended to, most of which I plan to do myself. I'm looking forward to browsing the forums and learning more about this unique and somewhat scarce Porsche model.

Thanks,

Jason

Welcome! As you'll undoubtedly find, the timing belt (and balance shaft belt and all related rollers if necessary) are a top priority, every 3 years or 30,000 miles.

Welcome aboard, and don't delay on the belts unless you know exactly when they were replaced last. Even though you don't have a lot of mileage on the car, time seems to be just as important for the belts.

Hi Jason,

There's many do-it-yourselfer's around these parts. Don't hestitate to ask if you have any questions. I'd hazard a guess that there's someone here that knows something about every part of these cars. Good luck!

Welcome Jason! Hope to see you at one of the Ozark or Cimarron related PCA driving events in the near future.

Thanks JG, I am a member of the PCA, the new White River region in NWA. I've also attended Mayfast and Octoberfast at Hallet several times. Would've met Cimarron at devil's den last Saturday but the kids had soccer and baseball games that conflicted.

Timing belt, water pump, and front end seals are at the top of the list. Tires were actually at the very top, but I ordered them yesterday, some continental extreme contact dw's to put on the original 16" rims. I plan to just maintain the car in original condition and spec with no mods (except some minor stereo upgrades).

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
