Need explanation of draining and refilling coolant
#1

My '92 coupe lost much of its coolant when the small hose just behind the coolant tank cap detached, enough that the engine went quite hot.  I refilled the system with water through the tank, loosening the vent screw, starting the engine and bringing the tank up to its measure.  The car drives well and maintains the normal pressure.  But now I need to drain the system and refill it with proper coolant.  I know about the radiator drain and have also read about a drain plug on the passenger side of the block, though this information was given for a 944??

So, is that the process, or do I loosen the hose containing the thermostat to drain the block?  And how do I refill the block, understanding the heater should be at max, and the vent plug loosened and the escaping fluid caught on a cloth in the process, possibly doing multiple cycles?

And update on an earlier issue. I had sought information on a parasitic battery drain a few months back.  I couldn't find the drain but the less-than-three-year-old Delco battery was replaced under warranty.  The battery's failure was  masked because it showed a full charge after being on the battery charger. Thanks to those who responded on that one.

The radiator drain plug is on the driver's side, (lower left corner). You need to remove the batwing to get to it. The one's I've seen are cheap blue plastic, so you may want to have a spare on hand.

I guess I was unclear when I said I knew where the radiator drain plug is and asked about a plug in the passenger side of the block that can be removed to drain the block.  The reference about that plug was for a 944, and I am curious whether it exists on 968s. I've looked for it on my car, but the exhaust manifold and pipes limit viewing this area from above. I have been driving this car for nearly 26 years and have changed the coolant a number of times over the years,  But at age 87 some of my recollections are a bit fuzzy

I would not touch that plug, if it snaps you could be in a world of pain,

I have never heard of draining a block to change the coolant mixture...

In the old v-8's when I was working on stuff they were soft plugs and if one came out you had bigger issues...

this was decades ago

I stripped my engine down to the bare block when I rebuilt it many years ago, and didn't see a drain plug on the block.  There's an urban legend that it exists on some cars, but I've never seen that confirmed, and it definitely didn't exist on mine.
