Name that hose
#1

I was under the car the other day cleaning as the suspension is out at the moment. I noticed a hard plastic tube about 25 cm long connecting the left and right side of the rack. It was not seating on one end as it's 18 years old and crispy. I will replace it but I couldn't figure out what it was for? It had no fluid in it so is it some kind of push/pull air balance over-engineered Porsche thing?

It's called a compensating line, part #944 347 311 00. Don't know what it's function is, perhaps someone can chime in.

It's suppose to equalize the pressure in the steering rack boots when turning left to right. You can really use any type of hose to reconnect.

Yea, I looked it up in PET when I got home. I makes me wonder how engineers think of this stuff. The amount of air coming out one side and being pumped into the other side actually makes a difference in the steering operation? My hose was not really sealing at all and I really doubt there will be a difference when repaired but I guess in a perfect world it does.
