Rekeying
#1

I'm looking at this 1992 968 as mentioned in the Introductions forum. The owner now tells me that he has lost the key to the car. Nothwithstanding his neglect of the car, if I take on the project can someone give me an idea of what it would cost to have a locksmith rekey the car? I'm assuming the doors and ignition worked from the same key to begin with. I'm also assuming one can't take a number down to the friendly Porsche dealer and purchase the corresponding key. Thanks.

If you are lucky there is a key code in the owners manual (I was not lucky) and a dealer can cut you a key with the code and proof the you are the owner of the vehicle. I was also informed that the code may be on the door lock cylinders but that requires removing the interior door panels (no guarantee). Otherwise you can try to contact Porsche with the VIN and a bunch of money and they may be able to research the code for you - once again no guarantee. I do not know if a locksmith can rekey. Good luck and let us know how this plays out for you.

Missing a Key? Are you able to find out from the <acronym title='previous owner'>PO</acronym> if one key fits all locks. Check out the link below on how to re-key.
