my MBZ was demolished
#1

the good news ( depends whom you ask ) is that I was unhurt. the better news is that I was driving the MBZ this morning and not the 968 the bad news is that an unattentive driver ( pretty sure he was on his phone ) plowed into the back of my car on the highway with his pick up truck, as traffic was slowing down in rush hour commute, and did it with enough force to total a tank-like 02 Mercedes E320 ( damage assessed at $ 24,000+ ) and then causing the car to hit the one in front of me and that car then hit the one in front of it. so four cars chain collision, with mine sustaining the biggest damage.

the karma: his policy expires and is due to renew in 2 days from today !

ok, so karma does nothing to spare me from the hassle of dealing with insurance valuation of the car, finding another one in the mint condition my MBZ was, yada, yada, yada.. but hey, I live to enjoy life another day, and the 968 is sitting pretty in the garage, so how bad can things be, eh ?

think I'll have a nice glass of cognac just about now.. I need it

Share some pics please.

Oh. I used the Panorama to help me get a good evaluation price for my car.

I'm sure there is some MBZ publication that could help.

+2 on the tank comment. My friends wife had a woman cut across her path in a minivan. The 88 MB was traveling almost 40MPH as it struck the van. Get this, the widows didnt even break! I saw the benz and it looked more like it was in a 15MPH collision.

BOT- That guy is responsible for 4 cars now. OUCH! About how old was he?

guessing he must have hit me going over 30mph, maybe even faster, because he did not even break while

approaching my car.. clearly distracted

I'm guessing he was in his early 40s, white collar, lives in Va.. perhaps on business here in Ca, possible his pick up truck was a rental - no time to chat ; the highway patrol had three cars show up within a few minutes of the accident ( CHP station was less than 1/4 mile from the spot ) separated everyone to get the info, etc..

I told the insurance company it was fortunate that I was driving the MBZ and not the 968, otherwise the accident would have definitely resulted in a fatality - no, not me.. if this guy would have destroyed my

"baby" ...I would have introduced him to the county coroner

Glad you are OK!

Funny you should say 'pickup.' I was almost driven off the highway yesterday by some ass in a red pickup yacking on his cell and swerving all over (could have been drunk too)

I have gotten into the habit of reaching over and flicking on my hazards momentarily when I have to do a slowdown from highway speed.

Glad you are ok Dan. Talk to you soon. . .

Dan,

The car doesn't mean anything when you get to walk away. Just glad that you are OK....and I'd say that 2 glasses of Cognac wouldn't do you any harm!
