Must we track edits now?
#1

I see that the forum has been modified to report on users' edits of their own posts. I've always enjoyed that fact that this forum did not do that. My personal style usually involves some editing, and I hate having this announced as if it somehow meant something. Clutters up the post and says more about my post than I'd care to announce.

Is this a fixed decision? No recourse?

I had the same thought. Not sure what the feature adds - except evidence that sometimes I don't proofread well enough.

Doesn't faze me and I edit just about every post for spelling and grammar.

How can you find these edits?

I edit my posts all the time for the same reasons as Mark.

I also edit my posts when I find a miss-spelling or grammatical error, and don't understand what announcing that a post has been edited adds. But as long as what has been edited isn't posted, I guess it's not a really big deal.

Because I'n not a native speaker or writer from the used language on this forum. I do use the editor from time to time.

This is getting pretty discursive. Would like to hear from the mods as to why this was turned on and if they will reconsider.

Oh, BTW, FWIW: "Enable email notification of replies" does not work for me.

Don't worry, Unknown4u, you write better than many native speakers/writers.

i did it - there is a very valid reason, which may become unneccessary soon enough with the software upgrade - for the moment, please bear with me, as i need the tool

i don't see the harm though - so what if you went back in and added or changed something and others know? lol - i just did it myself - am i missing something?

I suppose that one could argue that showing edits clears up any confusion that might arise from a subsequent poster's response looking a bit odd if the previous post has been changed/edited.

You edited your post but (perhaps because you're an admin) your post didn't get flagged with text that says something like "This post has been edited by Etnier: Yesterday, 09:44 AM".

i understand, and frankly agree - there were times on .net that i would have a half dozen edits to a post, as i had other thoughts on my original - very messy

we all rethink things we type hastily, and edits are common - nobody likes to see how many times

i should be able to resolve the issue that led me to the change when i make the next software upgrade

You wusses. I never edit my posts. If I want to say something I just say it the way I mean it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
