Multi-fluid discharge friday!
#1

Had an interesting day with my cab deciding to pump both ps fluid and coolant on my driveway as i got home. The leaking rack was not a bid surprise to me as I already noticed it and had a replacement en route but the coolant dump (geyser is a better term) was a complete surprise to me. Has anyone else here seen their lower hose be worn through by the water pump pulley? As it sits right now the pulley is about 6 mil from the hose but to wear through the hose you would have to come up with another 3mil. Has anyone seen this before? I am just trying to figure out if this is due to hose expansion due to age or longitudinal engine movement which would be odd. I have all new cooling hoses coming in in a couple of days but just want to make sure I am not missing something.

Any thoughts?

Oh yes, I have seen this... Luckily I caught it before it wore through all the way.

More than likely, your radiator has been moving around slightly as you drive. There should be rubber mounts both above and underneath the radiator. Check to ensure they are present, that the top mounts are tight and that the radiator's not loose and moving about.

The other possibility is bad motor mounts allowing the engine to move a bit.

Good luck!

And think it is your powersteering pump pully , not the waterpump pully . i don't think you would like it the other way around .

i've seen it due to a stretched power steering pump belt, as well as due to a bent bracket

Yes, that exactly happened to my 968. The power steering pump belt wore through the hose. As i replaced it I could understand why - because that hose had become very soft and lost its shape -- maybe by getting power steering fluid on the hose. Easy enough repair, but I seem to recall the hose was a little pricey.
