Do you find that your parents seem to get more intelligent the older you get?

yes. and my son is a perfect reminder this theory is true. while he was between 10 and 20 years old, we his parents were " clueless " and now for the last two years he realizes and freely admits ( which is even more remarkable ) that he was the clueless one all along ..

Obviously I am not young enough to know everything.

It is like the young kid who was berating an older gentleman, that his generation was the first to grow up with the Internet, mobile phones, xbox's, digital media, etc and that the old guy was out of date and he was about to be taken over by the new generation. The young guy asked the old guy, so what has your generation done - to which he replied, we invented all of the stuff you think is so cool and defines your generation and why we are so out of date, what is your contribution so far?

You,only have all of the answers until you have kids, then there is only worry and questions.

My parents had it right, they saw a bumper sticker that said "if I knew being a grandparent was so much fun, I would have done it first".

Our parents did the best they could, based on the lessons of their parents, and we do the best we can based on the lessons of our parents and the intervening years of social change. When our kids are parents, all we will know, is that with hindsight, we probably would have done things differently. All we can hope is that our kids grow up to be self sufficient people. Anything more than that is a bonus.

I was recently talking to my nieces about what goes on in schools with drugs, sex, etc. I am surprised anyone comes out of the system not screwed up. Do I worry about my kids - you bet.

Anyway, for good or bad, we would not be who we are or where we are without our parents.

DS how you have grown! One of my girls recently said to me that I hate it that your right all the time. I told her that surely I wasn't because I'm not really all that smart and that it just seems that way! Then I thought to myself, man my mother and father are right all the time and they are pretty smart. I gave up years ago and just accepted it. Can one ever really be that much more than what your parents are or were? Just how far does the apple fall from the tree? !! Lol

There's no susbtitute for common sense, some of which may very well be inherited but life's experiences also nurture it and that only comes with age. That's why parents , regardless of the era in which one lives , are likely to be wiser - not necessarily more intelligent, and certainly not more informed than their children - just wiser .
