Mine on the Nurburgring
#1

Hi All

Here is a photo of my 968 coupe on the Nurburgring in Germany. She is a lovely car. Bought her in January with 75000 kms (46000 miles). 1 owner from new and perfectly straight... So I go try and bend her!.

Great shot! Thanks for sharing. Wish the 'Ring was a bit closer. I used to run up there when I lived in Germany - back in the old days when the gatemeister charged you DM20 per lap and made change from a little leather wallet.

Unfortunately, I can only drive it in the virtual world or watch it on videos.

They do have a web cam so you can see some pretty cool cars before they start.

Is there any track as famous as the ring?

I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

Famous or infamous? No track is more famous than Indy. Period. The Ring is a different kind of famous.

Years ago you could sneak around the barriers at Spa in the offseason and run the course, backwards. Not that my friends and I ever did that in a Rabbit GTI, a Mustang GT and a Saab 900 SPG... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Now it is all barriers and formality. I'm not even sure if any of the actual track still uses the highway that runs through that area. It was always cool to drive up the hill past the garages as you just drove down a public highway.

No, the Ring is unique. Where else can you stick your Porsche (or your rental car - though I think they have cracked down on that) on a challenging racetrack and have a go. No helmet, no safety inspection, no run classes. Just speed and danger. It is actually pretty stupid if you think about it.

Here is another 2 shots I have plenty of others. There are a lot of photographers all round the 21 kilometers.

The cost if you buy a single lap is 21 Euros. Cheaper if you buy multiple laps. You cannot bring a rental car on the track as you will likely be caught by a company spotter and then you will be hit with 2000 Euros of wear and tear bill. However there are plenty of companies who will rent you a car that is prepped to go out on the track for about 350 Euro a day.

The track is about 100kms from where I live. I can blast up there on the autobahn do nine laps and then come back on tank of fuel which I think is pretty good.

The car is stock though - only have changed the brake lines to briaded ones. Suspension next I think. Though I am a little reluctant to change to much. The car still has the original Grundig Stereo in it.

Thats a tough job.

Work for a rental company.

Go to the ring and look for your cars all day.

Where do I sign up?

Great shots!
