micro swirls during wash
#1

It seems no matter how careful to try to be I always end up with swirls after I wash the 968. After which I than have to buffer the whole car out with wax or coumpound. Can't seem to just be able to wash and go.

Do you guys use a shammy?

Any suggustions?

I've been using a synthetic shammy I bought years ago from Griots, and it's always worked very well. But yes, it could be the water as well.

Having trouble with my internet, check out Odds and Ends (Darryl is a sponsor here) and check out the videos on Adam's Products.

It's most likely your technique. Are you using two buckets? Are you using grit guards? As for drying, a "shammy" (chamois) is somewhat dated and the best thing to dry with is a waffle weave microfiber towel specifically formulated for drying. They hold a ton of water and will not scratch as you dry.

I wash a black Corvette EVERY Friday and it barely has any swirls. Most, if not all, of the damage we do to our paint is done during the washing and drying phase.

Maybe basic, but worth mentioning: one way to minimize swirls is to wash and dry in straight lines that flow with the lines of the car. The reason that helps is circular marks are visible from just about any angle, while straight lines are only visible from a handful of angles.

Thanks for all the input. I will have to change my ways and upgrade my wash kit.
