That 2014 911 GT3 is one hot car !
#1

Reportedly Porsche advised all of the owners of the 2104 911 GT3 to have their cars towed to the dealer ASAP - many have caught on fire ( apparently competing with Tesla , LOL ) and Porsche has yet to determine the cause. What was surprising to learn is that only 785 ( 2014 ) GT3s have been sold so far world-wide ! Really..that seem awfully low. GT2 I can see at less than a thousand world wide annually, but I thought GT3s were more common..? Anyway, there will be even less of them if they spontaneously combust so easily :-)

Maybe they used the same glue as Ferrari did on the 458? A number of those have been transformed into really expensive bonfires too.

There have been two confirmed by photos and supposedly five total that have caught fire. Porsche is sending flatbed service to all owners, and holding all GT3s for sale until the problem is fixed.

Speculation from multiple sources is that the oil cooler bolts are faulty and causing the oil cooler to fracture, causing oil to spill onto the exhaust pipes and poof.

It would not be surprising for insurance companies to drop the physical damage portion of the coverage on that car for all of the existing policies, and not offer any new ones until this issue resolves . Happened with the Pinto, happened with the Suzuki Samurai, happened with various other makes and models recalled because of an inherent defect which was discovered, and recently the Tesla . Methinks GT3 owners are probably already getting notices in their mail .

It's what you deserve for buying a car 90 years before its time..

A sad sight, for sure. But there is an upside for non-smoldering GT3 owners. The remaining 2014 GT3's gain in value as more burn up, decreasing the overall number of cars. Every silver lining has a cloud.

Ah, but Porsche did not say replace with what. I heard it was Briggs & Stratton. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/glare.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Saw some recent Top Gear BBC Season 21 shows, where Jeremy makes fun of Hammond and his GT3. Priceless...
