lunch w/ the new Turbo Cab
#1

Leith Porsche in Cary, NC has received its first of the new Carrera Turbo Cabs and it will be on display in the showroom this Saturday (9-5.) This puppy is already sold, but we do have 2 alotments left so one could take delivery pretty soon. What a beautiful car. crap i need more money and a bigger garage. Anyway, come have some bagles or burgers & brats for lunch and check out the Cab. The Hurricane PCA can swing by here for bagles first and then head to the BBQ. It will be Porsches and free food all day long! Cheers!

Palmetto Region had there monthly meeting at Baker in Charleston last Tuesday to see the new Turbo Cab. It wasn't bad, don't think it would be on my list. The car was silver and had the invisible protectant stuff on the front bumper and it was very evident, the color was different between the hood and the bumper. That kind of bothered me. It was also a Tip, if I was shelling out that much cash it would have to be a stick.

I'll stop by on my way to the Hurricane Sections Oktoberfest. Hope you'll be there to meet.

A Tip? seriously? crap the only Tip I've ever seen on our lot is in the Boxster. I suppose if you pay that much for a car you could have it designed to be drawn by actual horses if you wanted but that don't make it a good idea. (says the girl looking at a 968 Tip coupe.)

We've done a "clear bra" to this Turbo as well at the customer's request, but this version isn't so bad. There is no obvious color shift and our guy hides the edges pretty well. I actually like the product and think I might have it added to a 968 if I ever get one.

And when I called the Turbo a "beautiful" car I think i was mostly thinking of its insides. Fast=Hot.

I'm actually headed to the Oktoberfest early to meet RPM and a few others then back here around 12:00 to work! We might just miss each other. I'm the only girl around though so I'm not to hard to spot! I suppose you'll be the only one with a 968 so you won't be hard to spot either...

I'm sure it's a fun car, would love to take one for a spin. I'm guessing with the Turbo and the top down it's best suited for people who are already bald, so that counts me out..

I'll see you at the Oktoberfest then. I usually park right next to Ralph. We are the two competitors in the 968 section of the concours.

"There is another..." (Yoda voice and this makes sense)

Actually the PCA Hurricane Oktoberfest in Cary NC this weekend is shaping up like a great event - over 90 cars registered and the weather should be perfect. With last minute decisions I bet we wind up with close to 120 cars.

If you are anywhere close by it is worth the trip.

My local Porsche dealer told me that they have a two year waiting list for the Turbo Cab, but paying an additional dealer markup would "probably move me way up on the list."

Supply and demand, baby. You want integrity at a car dealership?

It is one thing to complain about the rising cost of milk or whether gas stations raise prices on fuel they have already paid for when a storm blows up in the Gulf. It is another to bemoan 'gouging' or worry about 'integrity' when you are considering a low-volume sports car that costs over $100k.

There is a list. You will probably get one eventually. You do not need it. If you want it sooner it will cost you more.

In my experience buyers with long histories at a specific dealership also move to the front of the line. They have also paid for the priviledge, just over multiple cars rather than just this one.

I don't think that moving a higher paying buyer above the "poor" schlepp who already placed his deposit and thinks he is in line based on date of deposit, is supply and demand. I think it's greed.

does a 911 turbo engine fit into a boxster? *that* would be cool My porsche convertible of choice.

None of these 'schlepps' is poor.

I don't know a dealer who would actually do that to a customer at this level of investment. What does happen is that, for 'special' customers, the dealership may call in a favor through the dealer network for a car not in their original allotment. No one gets cut out of line, but someone does technically get cut in the line.

Recent Pano article on a guy who got a GT3 RS was exactly that case. He was willing to pay more and the dealership had a car that someone else had ordered and then declined. The next guy in line stuck with his original color choice and, voila', the guy jumps the line and has a car ahead of others.

Of course this is not my world. I was pricing new lawn mowers the other day and debating if I really needed self-propelled...
