Lotus Europa S
#1

Holy cow I'm really starting to sweeten to this car.

Sure there are plenty of cars faster in the specs. But I am thinking - the *feel* of a car that weighs 2200lbs and isn't a stripped to the bone track car?

I mean, I was previously trying to decide between Z4M coupe and the Cayman S as my favorite current sports coupe. . . but I think this dark horse has taken me by surprise!

I mean think of it. 2200 lbs, 11 lbs per horsepower? And they're talking about a 240 hp version down the road? wooooot! Honestly don't you think it will be a *totally different* and *totally exciting* machine to drive? I can't wait until they bring it to the states. . . I'm going to test drive one for sure.

I don't know Sean, I prefer the Cayman.

The lotus idea (low wieght, high HP) is nice, but that thing looks kinda "blocky".

Its very color dependant. Best (IMO) in Red and Blue.

There's no plan to bring it to the US.

Here's a TG review: http://www.topgear.com/content/features/st...ories/14/1.html

heh Karl thanks for the article link. . . as far as I'm concerned, they complained in all the right ways

I'm into off-the-beaten-path cars (hey, I drive a front engined water cooled 4 cyl Porsche!) so I really dig this one.

Various online articles mention potential 2008 delivery to the US once the engine gets emissioned. . . so I hope you're wrong

I'd be delighted to be wrong as well.

The big hurdle is the GM engine currently used in the Europa. Like the original Rover engine in the Elise, its not Federalized and they'd have to go through that process (expensive), or get a substitute that has been Federalized (like the Toyota engine in the US Elise).

Nothing drives like an Elise. So I’ve heard.

I'm a former MR2 owner and Elise owners used the MR2 forum also, as they both shared Toyota's engineering. From various meets, those who met up with message board friends shared rides and the ones that drove the Elise's all agreed that noting they've ever driven handled like that car. Corners like a scolded cat and looks twice as sexy as a miata.

I’m not so crazy about the styling of this new model. Its not ugly just not unique.

LOL. Well thats what matters most.

Everyone should be able to enjoy what they like regardless of what others think. Well, at least the things that are legal.
