Immobilser
#1

Does anyone have one of these Porsche immbolisers fitted to their 968? A search on 'immobilser' and 'immobilizer' reveals nothing, maybe it's an optional extra or a UK thing?

....anyway my problem is that it's finally stopped working after months of intermittant behaviour and I can't start the car now! Normally, to un-immobilise the car before driving, I insert the immobiliser key, wait for one long beep followed by several shorts beeps, extract the immobiliser key, and then start the car normally with the ignition key (sorry if this is all common knowledge, I'm assuming I'm the only person who's got one)

I think the spring contacts in the immobiliser socket (on the steering column) have relaxed and no longer make good contact with the key contacts. I've tried cleaning the contacts and pulling them out a little but it's a very difficult space to work in with a tiny screw driver - and it still doesn't work.

Anyone had experience with these, and replacement of the immobiliser socket and wiring loom?

Thanks!

The immobiliser is not a Porsche item, its made by Hamilton and Palmer. Pretty much a UK only thing because of insurance or something?

They don't have anything on the website but I would assume they can help if you call.

That's a great lead thanks, I emailed Hamilton and Palmer who knew exactly what I was talking about - GBP35 + VAT for a replacement socket (receptacle). GBP41 shipped to New Zealand. they also supply new immobiliser keys at GBP35 each, just need to send them the old key or get your OPC to read it - if they still have a working reader.

Very likely a UK insurance thing, our car also originally had a Tracker installed for insurance purposes.

This forum is great! Would've been much harder to solve this otherwise.
