you can get one from sunset, but depending on current availability, it may have to come from germany.  you can pay the markup for expediting it, and you're good to go.

pelican usually has them too.

the 968 radiator IS a 951 radiator.  if you get one that has to have the port plugged, it is for a tiptronic or automatic.

951 106 031 07 (manual trans) for $626.60 from Sunset (online parts catalog tool shows as available)

same radiator was $600 from Sonnen. Their prices are just consistently lower than sunset, but I have not started ordering from them yet. Sure its not a lot, but it adds up percentage-wise especially for bigger ticket items like this.

Going to call tomorrow to see if they will match Sonnens price, to keep a returning customer. If not I will give sonnen a try. Sonnen also lists water pumps (sure to be rebuilt, for $284) but sunset shows part as NLA (referring to new part I suspect but they dont even list rebuilts) I know sunset has sold porsche rebuilt WPs previously but they are not currently shown online. Will see what they say on the phone tomorrow.

Thanks again!

I got an Adrad radiator (Australian). They whey about half compared to OEM. If that's a bad thing, I guess time will tell.

Well I installed it about a year ago, no complaints so far, exept the block off thingy. It already shows some cracks, so I don't trust it anymore and ordered an OEM worthless thingy to replace it. At least I will get stranded in style.

The rad itself is a-ok. I ordered it in Germany, from a company that also makes radiators, but when opening the box, it turned out to be an Australian one made in Taiwan or something like that. I replace my coolant every 4 years, so it should hold up well. The fins are thinner than on the stock rad, but it's lighter and does its job, so fine by me.

I got my rad from NRF, when it arrived it had the part number ground off, it was a genuine Porsche rad with the LRO markers mark

£226 gbp delivered

And no blanking plug needed unlike the turbo rad

Finally bought a new radiator and NEW WP from SSF, through my indie mechanic. The rad seems correct for 6 speed, molded in plug at that passenger side port. But all markings and part numbers are ground off. Why is that done? Is it because one vendor buys some other vendor's stock and wants to remove all traces ? Anyway I can still see a portion of that triangular Porsche symbol so it's clearly been a Porsche approved radiator.

I plan to bring the car out of storage early mid March, and get all this stuff done. This should be the best driving season yet for my car, maybe even make to a Road America HPDE event.

Hello waylander,

I'm just in need of a radiator replacement and considering the NRF. How is yours holding up so far? Wonder if they are any good..

Thanks

Hi ed

It's a genuine porsche rad made by LRO but sold by NRF

The original part number was ground off but you could see the LRO name and the porsche approved mark

It is of course 100% fine

Thanks Waylander. I ended up getting a genuine Porsche one. They were previously "NLA" but are now available from Porsche again. Previous one i had was Adrad brand (Australian) supplied by my indie mechanic which lasted just over two years..didnt come cheap either!

I run Stant Racing radiator  (coolant tank) caps . They are rated at 19-21psi and work great on street/DE cars. Our cars tend to get vapor pockets in the coolant system and the higher pressure caps keep everything under control.

Just reporting back that replacing my radiator solved the overflow problems and, along with the previous head gasket replacement, solved the black silt contamination in the coolant.

Engine easily maintains temps now, never overflow leaks, and coolant level stays constant and color is clear (I use the blue stuff, Pentosin/pentofrost NF).

Also noted that I had bits of rubber in the system before (from a thermostat gasket that got sucked into the system and chewed up, and pieces even made their way to hose connections at the radiator, especially that small one above the temp sensor at the top driver side corner, and this further created nasty blockages.

So point being, if you change your radiator, make sure all hoses are clean and clear, and if they are old, may want to just replace them as well.
