Knowledgeable 968 wrench near Austin?
#1

Hey gang howdy from my new digs in Round Rock, Tx. This is a pretty cool place and family and I are settling in from our orange Co. move a little over a month ago. Have been exploring some county roads with some success as there is plenty of country on all sides. Looking for a local mechanic that hopefully is familiar with the cars. So if you know one light up the board. Thanks OV

I never thought I'd see the day! Another 968 owner in (or at least near) Austin! Welcome! Unfortunately, I live WAY on the south side of town (North San Antonio, practically ). There are several great mechanics in town who know these cars quite well, although it's been years since I went to one, as the knowledge available on this site had given me everything I've needed to do all my own wrenching, including some fairly involved jobs like replacing the engine mounts, belts, clutch master and slave cylinder, etc. But as far as mechanics, I've gone to Mark McDougal at Black Forest Werkshop, and David Moore at Moorespeed. I'm sure there are others, but both of these guys are extremely knowledgeable.

I would highly recommend Matt at TPWS (Targa Porsche Work Shop). He was our mechanic for many years through a couple of different
Porsches while we lived in Austin. Wouldn't take our cars anywhere else.

Yes, I've heard good things about TPWS as well. They're very far from me, so I've never used them, but their reputation is very good. Austin isn't lacking in good Porsche mechanics, but there is a severe shortage of 968s!

I used Matt at TPWS for many years. He's the best in town for front end Porsches. No question about it. I no longer live in Austin, but I can tell you I still call him for advice because I trust him.
