Hello Fellow 968 Owners and Enthusiasts,
I will be picking up a 1993 year model 968 coupe with manual transmission in the next few weeks.
My illness began in 1997 when I purchased a 1985.5 gray market 944, that was purchased in Germany by a service member, and brought home and federalized "sans" getting a proper vin number.
After a couple of years I promptly traded in the 944 black / black on a 1984 928S, and subsequently have owned a 1988 928S4, 1993 928 GTS (5 speed), and currently own a 1991 928 GT (black / black), which I will be selling to make a slot for the 968 in the garage.
Previously I also owned a white / black 1990 944S2 for 10 years, which was a terrific car, but I was required to sell it by the VP of Finance at the homestead when I purchased a different 1991 928 GT, which was supercharged, and intercooled, putting 500 hp to the rear wheels, and scary fast. Too fast for my wife, and after I bought a 2000 M5, I sold the red 928 GT to an enthusiast who also dreamed of owning a 928 when he was younger.
The red rocket is gone as of 4 years ago, and I have always dreamed of a 968, looking at them on the internet, and wondering what another 30 hp and an additional forward gear in the transmission would be like. I am excited to be joining this forum and buying the 968.
Aside from doing timing belt and counter-balance belt, re-sealing the power steering pump and replacing hoses, the only items I recall replacing on the S2 were a window switch, the odometer gear when the rubber teeth on it broke (replaced with the aftermarket one that won't break), and the fuel sender (as the gauge would not read past 3/4 full, which bugged me).
The 928 is a great car, but far more labor intensive and high maintenance than the S2 was, which is my primary reason for letting someone else enjoy the 928 and my replacing it with a 968.
I live in Southern Indiana, and if there are others in the area, would love to get together at some point in the future.
John
