DIM HEADLIGHT
#1

Lately, the passenger side headlight is very dim. The left one is as bright as you might expect. I'm assuming that I have a loose or bad ground somewhere, but having never taken one of the lights apart, I don't really know where the problem could be. Hopefully, there is an easy fix other than totally disassembling the headlight. Any ideas?

put headlights in upright position. take out key. pull black handle directly inboard without raising it up or down. Then flip up housing, remove rear connector, and check voltage. may be as simple as a new bulb or bad contact.

Thanks xrad. Do you know if there is a ground that services that light? My original thought was that there might be a dirty ground wire in that area. But, your suggestions really make more sense. Let's hope for a dirty connection. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to look at it tonight.

well, there is a ground. But I don't know where it is located. Bulbs are less than 10$. good to start there.

no need to even spend the money... switch the bulbs between the headlights and see if the problem switches with it

Well, I took the headlight apart yesterday. Did not find any evidence of corrosion; however, when I put it back together, the light works as it should. I hate it when I can't find something wrong! Thanks for the suggestions guys.

corrosion was there, but you just could not see it.

Bad contact - a friend had this problem. Looks like by plugging it back together you fixed it though [Image: thumbup.gif]

Speaking of head lights.....last night went out to wash the car....drove the car to coin operated wash bay and the lights would not go down....had to turn them down manually...motors spun freely ...checked the fuse....what’s next the relay? I went to pull it out....you know that corrosion thing....but couldn’t pull it out....and by that I mean it felt like an unusual mount of force to pull it....so I stopped.

the downward movement is gravity driven, so it could merely be gunky mechanisms - happens all the time - go home and get a good lubricating spray oil ( i prefer triflow over WD-40 as it has more lube and less solvent) - spray generously on the elbows and moving parts - odd that they both did it at the same time though - could be electrical in nature, so i'd get that relay out and clean the contacts there too
