#1

that I could talk into looking into a 968 for me? Found a potential purpose, but before investing in a PPI or taking things fruther, it'd be great to have someone familiar with a 968 take a look.

Thanks

Pretty close to me and while I'm not the best at selecting these cars, I'll be glad to have a surface look at it. Maybe one of the other locals will join me or take a separate look at it. I assume it is the black coupe? Have you spoken with the seller? I'll PM you my contact info.

Awesome!

Yes, it's the black coupe that's for sale.

I'm not super worried about a through look over, as I'd get a PPI before purchasing it... just would like to have someone look over it aesthetically, etc, before forking out the money for a PPI and such.

Yes, I've been in contact with the seller, so I'll get back to you.

Thanks

Well, I bought the Monrovia Maryland 968 this weekend. With the great help of Mark, and his PPI. He was spot on. I drove down on Sunday, meet with the owner, did the inspection, test drive, and came down to business. The owner was very nice, and very open on issues (Literally, pointing problems). Even made lunch for my friend and I. He wasn't a Porschephile, and had moved on to a Lotus Elise. Can was poorly presenting, and dirty on the outside. The engine, and underside was like new.

Overall, very happy, save the completely worn out tires (To the cord!). I'll post some pictures of the "new" Porsche in the family.

Congrats on the purchase. Did you even make it to see the other cars in Va? What did you think of the clutch, was I imagining things?

I ultimately gave up on the VA cars as the sellers was flaky on info. After two weeks of promises to delivery the "dozens" pictures he had. I got three blurry shots from ten minutes earlier, which showed it didn't have the 17's any longer, and had 51K miles, not 49K. Service records would be made available only after I purchased the car!

The soft clutch felt like a stock clutch. Most people when they replace their clutch put in the Sachs Sport Clutch, which has a much firmer feel. My 951 has the stock clutch, and is just as soft. The observation certainly hurt in the negoiations though.

I'll need a bunch of small parts to bring her up to spec. This weekend is the fluid swap/refresh!!

She ran very well on the road home. Sweet engine and trans.

You should be deaf from tire noise after 2-3 hours on the road with those tires.

Nearly. Actually, I air'ed the pressure down from 36lbs (Where they were when I test drove it), to 30lbs, and the sounds went from deafening, to annoying. According to the paperwork the rear tires date back to sometime prior to '98, when the front tires were replaced. The rears were down the the cord in the middle, and rock hard. I have a pair of spare Michelin Pilot Sports A/S's with lots of 80% thread on them in 255/40-17 which I will put on to pass state inspection. In the spring I'll shop for new performance tires.

She needs to be wash two or three times to get the collected dirt out of all the crevices.

I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

I was actually having trouble seeing the lines and the seams on the car from the dust accumulation.

Well I've been a lurcher for a 968 for a number of years. I have a Concours '86 944T and a Track/Autocross '87 924S. Now I have my '93 968 Coupe. This is her, after a basic wash. The finish is quite swirled, but looks like it will come back with an afternoon with P21S.

Along side my 924S. Two ends of the family.

The condition of the engine and the underside is what sold me. Even uncleaned it was clear it was in great condtion.

THe Rear tires got replaced with Pilot Sport AS's I had from my Audi. Certainly much quieter than the tires that were on it. Yokohama AD07's goin on in the spring!

No interior shots as yet, but will post soon. It was an amazing amount of dirt that came off her.
