I'm just outside Ashford in Kent, UK. I have a 968 Coupe Tiptronic in Guards Red with grey Porsche cloth interior. She was delivered to her first owner on 24th April 1994, I am her second owner and have owned her since November 1998. She had done 26000 miles when I bought her, and has about 60,000 now. She is "daddy's toy" - we've always had a second car (currently a 2001 Mercedes C270CDI estate) as our "shopping trolley" and for carting garden etc waste to the recycling centre.
I have a full history file, from the original purchase order through the delivery invoice to now, mostly from Porsche main dealers.
There really is no logic now in having a second car, so my brain says I should sell my Porsche - but at the moment my heart won't let me. My wife and I both love the car, especially in summer with the sun shining, but I guess one day soon head will win over heart. I'd love to swap her for a 2.7 Boxster (I've twice had one as my "courtesy car" while mine was being serviced, and loved it) but it's too much money for what I'd like, especially as a toy second car.
Nobody believes me (at first) when I tell them how practical an everyday car the 968 is - until I show them the carrying capacity in the back, especially with the rear seats folded. Then I tell them how little my insurance and servicing costs are - less than the Rover 820 turbo vitesse that was a previous "shopping trolley"!!
We've owned many cars over the years - 2 Ford Escorts, a Fiat 131, VW Beetle, Citroen CX and BX, Volvo 740 and 245, Rover 827 vitesse and 820 turbo vitesse, Range Rover, Renault 5, Porsche 944 lux and 944S - and driven quite a few others, but we now have the best pair ever in the C270CDI and the 968.
