installing new wipermotor
#1

Had a problem with the wipers for years , and found the wiper motor was the problem , it would work intermittend .

And somtimes took a few times activating the wiper handel to get it going , it was also getting worse over time .

First disconected wipers , take of rubber gromet on the right side and remove the nuts (size 22 socket)

remove plastic engine cover , and the remove plastic cover wich sits over ventilation unit .

Take your time to loosen the 2sided tape with wich it is glued to the metal lip below the windscreen .

Clean up al the bits left behind , to make sure the new 2sided tape will stick , i used sticker remover .

Then remove the all the electrical connections hang them aside , there is on on top off the unit drivers side and one on the passenger side (temp probe ) bracket is very thin and easy to bend .

Then remove the 6 srews with metal and rubber washers , note the middel screw (windscreen side ) is a bit longer , put i back same location .

Than pry the unit loose , it is stuck on there with a sealant wich will stay soft (color is white), but is very difficult to loosen , it is all plastic so take your time , once you get is going a bit it wil come off easy .

3m has some similar sealant if you want to replace it , other option is to work it all back in the grove before installing again , you want to make sure you have plenty in there , otherwise you will develop leaks !!!!!

I put the unit upside down on top of the engine (put a blanket there so it won't slide) there is also a vacuum hose connected on the passengers side inside the unit , i left it connected , make sure you don't pinch it somwhere when putting the unit back .

Now get a HOOVER from your misses and clean your unit carfully , do not bend anything there .

Undo the wiper motor electrical plug , and undo the bolt next to wipermotor with the ground wire , note the washers , clean the contact points for good connection later on .

There is one more bolt under the assembly(passenger side wiper ) where it is bolted to the fire wall under the windsreen , you can feel it by hand .

Take out the wiper assembly , note the relative way the wipermotorarm is connected , AND MARK MAKE A FOTO , and make sure it is put back the EXACT the same way , otherwise you find your wipers all over the place and possible damage to car paint and wiper assembly later on .

Disconect wiper arm from motor , and disconect motor from bracket , put you new or restored motor back on the bracket and install the arm in exactly the same way .

THERE SHOULD BE A PLASTIC CAP OVER THE WIPER MOTOR TO PROTECT THE MOTOR FROM WATER .

This part was missing from mine and therfore the motor corroded inside , and needed to be replaced .

Part Nr 944 628 101 01 . as far as i know 944 type 2 uses same platic cover and motor .

If for some reason your not sure the motor arm is connected in the right position , put the assembly back in and only connect the bolt and ground wire , install the electrical plug from the wiper motor , DO NOT put the wipers on the assembly , now activate the wipers and make sure the studs move the right way and stop at the and of it's travel , if they do you can connect everything back up , if they don't take it out again and move the arm on the motor until you find the right position ,

Also if your not sure the new motor is is in its rest (0) position , connect it first with the plug and ground wires and activate the wipers , it will then stop at rest (0) position .

Good luck
