There are no auto-x events put on in Austin, but in San Antonio we have one coming up on Sept 18th at the Verizon Center on IH-35.
Go to the events page at http:\\www.longhornpca.org for more information...
Quite a few cars usually come down from Austin to our Auto-x's.
Another place to find out more is at a group on yahoo. Most of the hard core auto-x'ers and DE guys (and gals) hang out there a bunch.
Go to http:\\groups.yahoo.com and then search for hcrpca. Then you need to click on it and 'join' the group. Once there, post a 'hi there I'm a new guy' message and talk about your desire to auto-x. You will get a bunch of responses.
Needless to say you need to start attending your areas happenings...

btw, in case you can't tell, I hang out quite a bit with the Austin group also...

PCA Autocrosses are great. Unfortunately my region rarely has one. Since I am the driving events chair I should do something about that. But we do not have enough members to run one efficiently or cost effectively.
We participate in SCCA Solo II (Autocross) instead. The Lone Star SCCA Region seems to be based around Austin. I suggest you contract them (
http://www.lonestarscca.org/who.htm ) .
With a PCA Autocross you should be classed against other 968s, 951s and 944S2s. In SCCA all types of cars will be running. I find it much easier to place in PCA Autocrosses than SCCA events. Not sure if it is the classing or the drivers.
Enjoy your 968!
