i will now stop whining
#1

for over a year, i have had a horrible alternator whine in my stereo. so much so that i didn't want to drive the car. keep in mind that i have spent a small fortune on this system, so i was particularly motivated to resolve it.

i tried all sorts of wiring changes, moving grounds around, re-routing things, new cables, yada yada - no dice

i went to the internet and found some "fixes" - no dice

thought maybe the eq was making noise - sent it back - installed new one - do dice

changed eq models to the new one - no dice

i went back to the internet and found that the pioneer decks are prone to the whine, as a result of a blown pico resistor. - yanked the deck - sent it in - it spent 2 months there - they lost it - they found it - they hadn't fixed it - got a new one - no dice

that left the amp - i had changed everything else in my hunt. yanked the amp - installed new one - SUCCESS!!!!

she's nice and quiet now. a few tuning tweaks and i'm done - WOOHOO!!!

now to do something about quieting down the exhaust a bit, and i can finally drive the car and enjoy it.

Congrats Flash. Mines still whining. I have a Clarion deck with 3x 5v preouts in a box waiting to replace the current Pioneer with 2x 1.5V's. Hopefully this will sort mine out.

Nothing better than throwing even more money at it is there <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/clap.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

But once you squash the amp whine and dial down the muffler drone, you'll then be able to hear a half dozen other noises you couldn't hear before, and it starts all over again... :-)

all too true. right now though, i am running the top up a lot, just to knock down the noise. with the exhaust quieter, i can once again zip out the window and roll down the windows, and let the air flow, or even (dare i say it?) put down the top altogether

re: my noise - i knew it was a grounding thing. i just never imagined it was inside the amp.

Go for it, the only sound you'll hear now is the gentle whisper of the wind flowing through your hair ....uh, wait ..:-)
