After 6 months of hating the look of the fading roof, bubble forming spoiler, and cloudy wing the other shoe has dropped.
My lower hinge on the driver side door rusted off taking most of the weld with it.
I anticipated this happening so I bought a replacement 968 door from Parts Heaven three weeks ago.
On Sunday morning I opened my door and it nearly fell off!
I brought the car down to the highest rated body shop in my town, we have 6 body shops for some reason, and got a great rate to do the whole car. The catch is I am doing the tear-down and re-assembly myself. (secretly I really want to do it)
As of right now: most of the extra trim pieces, side skirts, front bumper, and driver door have been removed. (I will take some pics tomorrow)
I'm having a little trouble getting the front wings off the car. They seem to be stuck. I've removed the 11 screws shown on the parts diagram and the wing moves but is still attached to the body. Do I need to force it or is there some trick to getting them off? I'm having a friend help me with getting the hatch off the car tomorrow and it should be all naked by Thursday if there are no more snags.

Are you talking about the front fenders? If that is the case, they are GLUED onto the car and you will have a hell of a time removing them. Not sure why you would need to remove those for a repaint anyway...

i know i explained this in another thread, but..........
remove the fender liner.
then follow the instructions above.
this will only allow you to move it. in order to remove it completely, you will need to disconnect the hoses, and remove the fender.

Beat me to it. LOL

Yes, the front fenders. I want the shop to do a quality job so I am removing every panel so they can work on them.
I've spoken to Parts Heaven and they said a puddy knife can break it free, however it sounds like there are 14 screws not 11.

LOL. Thread hackers!
The body shop told me that I did extra work removing the fenders so they are back on now.
In the mean time the: spoiler, hatch and hood have joined their fellow parts in various locations around my house.
(The hood is upside-down in the back of a van)

And on the 4th day he rested. I did a little re-arranging of the garage: I banished the hood to the back yard sitting on milk crates, moved the hatch to the van, labeled various nuts & bolts. Started work on the passenger door and rear bumper. Lots of rusty bolts on the rear bumper.

Curious, where has your car been that it got so much rust?
[/quote]
It has been around. I suspect it was while it belonged to its female New Jersey owner.
It started in Cali, then to Nevada, then New Jersey, then Arizona, and Colorado.
I dropped the car off last night. It looked like I left it overnight in Oakland.

If you don't mind telling, what is your respray going to cost? I ask because about half of my car could use new paint, and I'm trying to decide if I should have all the take-off pieces (bumper covers, side panels, one door) painted or just do the whole thing. Thx!
