I found another 15-25hp in the SC kit.

i think i still want to fiddle with one spot in the torque curve, but i think i'm there. the motronic data points don't leave me a lot of room, but maybe i can still make it better. it doesn't suck now, and is better than the standard kit.

here is a chart showing before and after numbers. the "before" is the standard kit, with no changes. this is on a test car, not mine. stock internals. the "after" is what i came up with after making some changes to the setup, and a complete retune. measurements are at the hubs!!! this is NOT calculated back to the flywheel. it is what we actually saw. if you want to do that math, they say to add 35hp to every number.

the A/F mixtures look a lot better too. they now stay stable at the top end. you can see that we run out of injector at 5500, and the mix starts climbing, but then it flattens out, unlike before where it kept going up. the timing map was massaged and knock count was eliminated too, so it should be a boat load safer up top. i still do not recommend sustaining high rpms, and when the supercharger squeals, it's time to shift, but there should be a lot more margin for error now.

notice that the hp went up as much as 21hp. hp and torque gains were pretty much across the board. there are a couple of odd spots i am going to try to smooth out, but i think this is a huge win.

282hp and 258tq at the wheels baby!!!

i'll put together what is involved, and what it will cost, in the next day or so.

yeah - it's pretty exciting. i always knew there was more in there, and i always said i tuned to the 85% mark to guard against less than steller motors. i just didn't think i was going to get quite this much.

i'm still working on putting together the list of everything required to do this, and make sure that it works on everybody else's cars. the biggest factor i have to deal with is the lazy owner. there are things that MUST be done PRIOR to implementing this. if they are not done, it WILL blow up. no question about it. they aren't a big deal, but they are required. so, i basically have to figure out how to "dummy proof" against the guy who would say "i'll get to that later" or "he's just being paranoid".

Is it a short list?

yes - actually quite short, and fairly simple.

Flash,

Do you have a dyno report for a stock 968 to compare with the SC and upgraded SC numbers?

Huh, looks like we have 325 HP plus on the crank. My poor 86' NA transmission!

uh - no stock dyno plot on this dyno. however, i posted a comparison chart with a stock dyno run vs the kit in the pdf file on the supercharger page of the D1R site, so you could see the gains from stock to the kit.

do not make the mistake of trying to apply a straight percentage for drivetrain. it does not work like that. you only add 30-35hp to get to the flywheel.

no idea about the 86 trans. i don't know diddly about that one.

Nice results Bob, especially given the size of our injectors. The numbers on my Mazda (2.65l V6 running 9psi) were very close to these numbers, maybe just a tad higher, but very close. I was very close to the max. desired duty cycle of the 370cc injectors (~85%). My torque peak was a bit higher (maybe 600-700 rpm above yours), so I needed a litte more injector than you'd need. Anyway, I'm jealous of all those that have installed your kit. I know what that kind of HP/torque feels like on a 3,000 lb car; lots of fun to drive.

Good work, but I would be quite concerned about the AFR climbing so high (12.5) at the higher RPMs if the car is used on the track. The higher AFR will lead to higher combustion temps and possible skirt or bore damage over time. An AFR of 12.5 ideal for maximum power, but not so good on boosted high CR engines. You should really be between AFR 11 and 11.5.

Granted, if it is ONLY used on the street (as you have suggested previously), it is probably no big deal given how infrequently you would hold over 5500rpm.

I still think it would be worth resolving the tuning issue with bigger injectors. As a reference my 944 turbo injectors (larger than the 968 ones) are maxed out with 7psi boost and about 250hp at the hubs (with 11.5:1 AFR at 6500).

Yeah I didn't mention, that I had reduced the stock cr at the same time that I bored the Mazda 100 over. So, even though I was tuned for 12.5 A/F across the board, the engine's only running 8.8:1 cr.

Bob,

Did you measure the intake temperature on the dyno? How close are you to the knock threshold and did you tune for zero knock? 91 fuel?

PS - I don't mean to sound negative - I think the way you have developed this kit and attention to detail is outstanding!

i'll be measuring intake temps again when i am done, but so far i'm ok. i'm not afraid of the intake temp by itself.

tuned for zero knock. used a ks-3 to do it. 91 octane (RON+MON/2)
