I bought a Lexus LS430
#1

Hello Friends,

With the family growing I went and bought a 2002 Lexus LS430 with the Ultra Luxury package. Silver exterior and black interior. Pretty far cry from the 968, but a great car in its own right.

The 968 is sold, unfortunately, but she went to an excellent new owner who is now experiencing his first Porsche. He loves the car and may soon introduce himself to the Forums.

I kept all of my tools and will have another 968 sometime in the future. And I enjoy the discussions and camaraderie here, so I'll be sticking around.

Cheers!

-Scott

Congrats on the growing family, Scott! How many children do you have now?

I'm sad to see you move on from your Porsche. I think us guys always need to have some "toys" in our lives. My wife and I don't plan on having kids and she likes riding in it, so I think my toy is safe for the immediate future.

Best of luck and do keep in touch!

mbardeen,

I've got 3 children, ages 7, 5, and 3. 2nd grade, kindergarten, and preschool. (my preschooler delayed the sale of the car by one week after she gouged the driver's side door with her pink tricycle, which I discovered a few hours before the car was to be picked up. Bikes and trikes were taken away forever.)

Another challenge is that a year ago we moved from a house with a proper garage to one with a carport. I think it might be the only house here in Cranbury, NJ, with a carport. I've got a 200 sq/ft shed in the backyard, but no place to keep a 3rd vehicle. And the 968 is just too nice to sit out without being driven often.

At the same time, a one-owner, incredibly fine example of the LS430 fell in my lap. I'll post a pic or two of that car soon. And the bikes and trikes have been given back.

Congradulations on the new ride. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do, good or bad!

Congrats! Glad you are sticking around - you never know what can happen. Just wrap pool noodles around all the bikes - lol

It feels very strange not to have a Porsche. First time in about 10 years I am driving something different.

A well-sorted 968 gives so much immediate feedback and response with a 6-speed gearbox. I already miss that. On the way to work I have a right turn banked the wrong way, that in warm temps, dry pavement, no one else on the road, etc., I can take at about 40mph after dumping about 10mph to enter the turn. Forget about it with the 430. I almost lost the back end but did not know it was happening! But the 430 takes every bump or seam in the road and just soaks them up. It's just a completely different animal, but very enjoyable for totally different reasons. It's WAY above average for a big sedan, but will never turn heads like the 968.

Scott - sorry to hear the 968 had to go, but I totally understand. In '97 I thought it best to sell my '95 M3 when my daughter was born. I bought a '91 M5 to replace it, which rapidly turned into a gigantic money pit. Ahhh memories...

BTW, PM sent re your brake valve for sale.

Our Lexus is great for long drives and more than 2 people, but the 968 is just a fun car to drive. Both are great vehicles, but different in many ways. Although the similarity is the quality and attention to detail in both the engineering and the production. Our kid is off to grad school so we had the time and the space for another sporty car, you will too.

Yes, I realize this is a 1992, but I'm sure nearly the same could be done with your 2002 if you can overnight the right parts from Japan. :-)

Scott,

Happy that you'll be sticking around, once a 968er always a 968er. I suspect that you will own another some day.

Blau-

That's a ridiculous build! How did you find out about that? And he guts the original Lexus exhaust, and decides he wants to "really go ricer, and have the tail pipe come out sideways". That's great stuff!

All I want to do with mine, which is completely stock, is firm up the suspension. But I can't really do that, because it has the Ultra Luxury package with air suspension. Even in

it's "Sport" mode, it's just too soft. Not sure I can even pull it out and install coilovers.

You guys are killin' me! I don't think I could every afford to do again what I did over 7 years, mods-wise, to my 968. Crying big boy tears now......sob....
