Howdy!
#1

Hi, y'all! Looking into a 968 purchase. Before this owned only aircooled including 914, 912, 912E and a couple of 911s. Miss them terribly but for now a 968 will do!

Well Howdy back atcha, Synchromesh, and welcome to the forum!  Lot’s of great info on the wonderful 968 and a nice bunch of people to be found in these parts.   I, and my ‘93 Cabriolet, live across the Bay in Oakland.   Let us know when you get your car.   It would be fun to get a little Bay Area 968 gathering together some Saturday or Sunday this summer.

Thanks! That's good stuff. Will holla baq when it happens. I usually go the Easy gathering, the aircooled one in Emeryville. Do you ever go there at all? They're not hostile to watercooled stuff.

Not familiar with it.   The only local car event I know about is Coffee & Cars the third Sunday of every month in Orinda.  So what is the “Easy Gathering”?

Welcome! Had a 912E for about half a second and still have a couple 914s, but water-pumpers are cool too. A 968 will fill the void nicely...and I spend part of my time in SF, so we'll be sure to meet up sometime.

It's at the former site of European Auto Salvage Yard. They used to sell all sorts of Porsche parts for decades and closed a few years back when the new owner retired. However, new building owner is a car guy too so he allowed the monthly gathering. It happens every 1st Saturday of the months about 8am to noon at 4060 Harlan St in Emeryville. Mostly aircooled guys show up so I've been driving my Beetle there but there are some watercooled guys too along with a few Beetles and other classics as well. Feel free to check it out, it's a fun hang out and it's coming up next week. They serve coffee and donuts if you get there early enough. Smile

I think I remember hearing about Easy.   I used to get parts for my 968 at Parts Heaven in Hayward which, unfortunately, is also now closed.    8:00 a.m. is a little early for me, but I’ll try and check it out next Saturday, more likely closer to 10:00 a.m.   I’ll be in the Horizon Blue Metallic Cab with the plate in my avatar.  Come up and say “hi” if you see me.

Bob, 8 am here is 11 am where you live, so that’s probably why you think it’s not too early  Tongue  Tongue

This morning we were awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an Amazon delivery person who rang our doorbell 3 or 4 times!   Yes, 8:00 a.m. is a little early … and 6:30 on a Sunday is A LOT early!

Welcome.

Eh, my daily driver is still a '72 Super Beetle. It's full of 30s tech so 50s (in reality 60s) were a big improvement. Smile That aside, I really miss aircooled. One day I will certainly buy another again.

No need to be there at 8am. I would say sweet spot is somewhere around 9:30. Still some donuts left at that time and people are still coming in. I'll be looking for you but I'm sure you'll spot me in a bright yellow '72 Beetle so feel free to say hello as well.

Pro tip: Fantasy Junction is literally a 2 block walk from that place. I recommend you check it out too since they have all sorts of interesting and exotic classic cars for sale at any given time. And yes, they're open on Saturdays!

Just kidding. My other car is a fake air-cooled Porsche.

ps: We had our first big local VW show of the year yesterday. Pics here. Mine was, of course, the only 968 there.

Thx. It’s a hoot.

Sadly, I broke it last August coming home from a Porsche get-together and caught Covid the same day. A week later I threw out my back and between the two, I haven’t touched it since.

I’m sending a parts car off to the great showroom in the sky on Tuesday and that will free up the garage space I need to tear into the Spyder. I’ve got two year’s worth of projects backed up and waiting to get installed.

I’m an early bird but I understand older peoples desire to sleep late. After all, you only have so much time left so you might as well sleep late!
