States competing for traffic tickets record ?
#41

bio - it's simple. it's because i do not think that highways should have speed limits for qualified drivers. i think montana had it right. by the way, for clarification, i mean open highways, and not freeways in urban areas.

I just returned from my quarterly trip to L.A which almost always includes the Beverly Hills and Hollywood dining and club scene , two cities also notoriously known for issuing parking tickets pretty much every second of the day . So if your meter's time expires chances are you might have two or three minutes , if you're lucky , before you end up with a ticket . I was told they're $ 95 now.

But ( after a few drinks ) I thought of a way we can all avoid getting any parking tickets ; remove the car's windshield wipers when you park !! :-) :-)

We only need windshield wipers in California  two or three days out of the entire year ( except for the 2016-2017 timeline , which was an anomaly ) , so I can test the above mentioned theory and report back...

Have you practiced putting the wipers back on after a few drinks?

You're old enough to remember Foster Brooks ....just visualize him trying to replace his windshield wipers, and you'd have an idea of how I would fare . But I'm proud to say that's one of no more than three or four other " DIY " jobs I managed successfully on this car..while sober of course .

Coincidentally, the parking violations in San Francisco are reportedly the most expensive in the nation , at $ 74 . The next in line was Beverly Hills at $ 70 ( I was apparently wrong about $ 95 , but subsequently found out that includes the " court handling " processing charges they impose on the fine , regardless whether you go to court or not ) then down to only $ 65 for New York ( Manhattan ) and then all the way down to $ 25 in Boston . Boston surprises me given the rather limited places to park as I recall from many years ago when I was last there. There is now also a measure in SF up for city leaders vote, recommending lowering the fees for poor people because $ 74 or / and the outrageous towing fees which average $ 400 , creates an undue burden to low income folks , and the city is unable to collect those fees on top of it all .. So they believe they would generate more revenue if they lower fees which can actually be paid . You can well imagine the controversy that idea of giving the poor a break for the same violation the " well to do " have to pay . Of course see previous post where a $ 106,000 annual salary is considered low income for this area , according to federal poverty guidelines .

But I think one or more of the Scandinavian countries have a tiered traffic penalty system tied to one's income and wealth so the SF measure is not unique .

I don't know why there might be a controversy giving the poor a break on parking tickets. Good Lord, they deserve it. The well to do don't deserve anything. The well to do don't deserve breaks because they haven't earned them. All they do is go to work every day, work, and pay taxes.

No, no , no - let's not start a socio-political debate again on this forum or the moderators may close this thread as well . My comment was purely an unbiased report on what's being discussed , without any opinions either for or against the idea and without sarcastic editorials for which I'm infamous, but believe me I'm grinding my teeth and biting my tongue ( and in pain , ) in refraining from starting a rant on social issues ;-) :-) .

Perhaps the new owners will be more generous and understanding in allowing liberal free speech. Don't bite your tongue or grind your teeth. That's a no good por you. Poor people rule

" Free speech is not free " probably the most poignant quote on the topic,..and reminiscent of a classic joke from the comedian Yakov Smirnoff during his stand up routine comparing the U.S to the Soviet Union ; " just like in this country , in Soviat Union we also have freedom of speech.. the difference is that here in the U.S. you still have freedom after you speak "

Eh, not so much anymore, lol, but that's another subject which can start heated arguments ...
