Digging into the history of my car
#1

So yesterday after a discussion on a Porsche-Club Norway meet I started to look into what my car did before it came to Norway in 2002.

My car is number 576 produced and was first registered December 12. 1991. That part was easy to figure out.

I also figured out that the first owner stanped in the service manual was a Porsche dealer in Stuttgart and this is where it had it's first services. That in itself is pretty cool, my car was delivered in Stuttgart.

Though the interesting part starts here:

Why is Dr. Ing. H. C. F. Porsche Aktiengesellschaft Kundenzentrum stamped as the first owner? And from what history I can find in the recipts and service manual, it didn't move from Stuttgart untill somewhere after mid-1992.

Did Porsche register it on themselves and had it as a show/test car? Furthermore, there's written "Presse" next to the stamp, which leads me to believe this was used as a test car for journalists.

I seem to have found it's original German licence plate number, and I am already digging after pictures of a red 968 with 17" wheels and that tag. (17" wheels was a factory delivered option on my car)

Anyone have any clue who in Porsche I can contact to dig up some info on my car? There has to be some sort of documentation if they have used it as a test car.

i know how you feel. sometimes i feel like a bit of an archeologist when i am going through these cars.

the first year was a bit odd. that was the largest production year RoW. they made about half of the entire production run in that year. there were some test cars. there were some press cars. not sure if they put it in the option sticker or not though. pretty hard to tell otherwise. there is a guy in europe that has a pretty complete production sheet though. i'll try to find his contact info. i want to say his screen name elsewhere is vedder, but i'm not sure.

That would be awesome. I'd love to find an old magazine where they tested my car. Probably brings up the value by a few dimes too. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Porsche Aktiengesellschaft Kundenzentrum = Porsche Company Customer Centre and yes Presse = Press. Therefore i'd suggest it was a press car, do you have the german registration number and i'll check old articles/press release etc?

The MTK plate is in the Frankfurt area, so it might not be the original plate if it was a press car.

That's the one it had in 1999 at least. It might have used dealer plates if it was a press car, not exactly sure.

I could try and email a Porsche dealer here and see if they have some info, or if they can contact Porsche themselves.

For some reason I thought you could pay to get a COA from Porsche? http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesan...henticity/

Not sure if they provide more info than what is stated. I would call the HQ of your country/region and ask?
