Hi from OKC
#1

Hi there,

I come here hanging my head as one who does not currently own a 968.

Actually, 20-years ago my first car was an 85.5 944 which I put 183k miles on the odometer before I recently sold. Along the way I briefly owned a beautiful '94 Aventurine Green over Cashmere 968 coupe which still leaves me in a cold sweat as I wake up remembering the day that the hauling company came to carry it away to the east coast; I really hated to see it go but, at the time, we really needed the cash to adopt our first child (Now that he is 8 years old, I can say I made the right choice although he does test my conviction from time to time).

Anyhow, now that I have freed up a space in the garage, Porsche fever is kicking in again and, after a month of flirting with "dreams" of a 993, I have returned back to my senses and have decided that there really can be no other car for me than another 968. I have enjoyed reading your many posts and drooling over the pictures you have posted - basically living vicariously through your 968 ownership. Now, I am combing the classifieds regularly just anticipating the day I can again join your ranks. Hopefully, it won't be long.

Thanks for having me,

David

Welcome! As you have already started to experience, this site is adddictive! That's because it is a great source of knowledge, coupled with a good mix of seriousness and humour.

With regards to your 8 year old son, as long as you are able to mix a good dose of love with firmness when required, the dividends will pay off! Take this advice from someone who was lovingly adopted almost 47 years ago! Dad is now 85 and showing his age, but I still remember him in my daily prayers, for all the blessings that came my way because I had the priviledge of having him as "my dad"!

Wishing you success (and a fun time) while you search for your next 968!

Cheers

No shame in being between P-cars, I also joined while "in the hunt". Enjoy the search for your next one, and welcome

We'll try not to test your conviction...

Please let us know your search parameters, as we are very much "in the know" on 968s that come up for sale. Color, Coupe/Cab, options, mileage, price...we'll pitch in and help you find your dream car.

Welcome,

Jay

Welcome! As with all used car purchases, buy the best one you can afford and be prepared for those "little" surprises that inevitably show up after the fact. Enjoy the search mission, and have fun!

Hi David,

My son and I are in Tulsa and both drive 968s, Cobalt Blue and Maritime Blue. We make a trip to Oklahoma Foreign in Moore once in a while to search for parts. They have over 25 wrecked ones there. Next time we'll give you a ping before we head over. Also, our private Porsche repair shop owner here in Tulsa has a 968 too. His is Speed Yellow with M030 package. He often wins the PCA autocross here in Tulsa which just goes to show you - you don't need to spend big bucks to have a fun car to drive.

Hope you find a nice one. Be patient, it helps!

@Jerry, 25 wrecked 968s, that must be a very sad sight.

It is a very weird feeling. I provided Jeff Coe with all the vin #s and photos so he could update his records. Most are thoroughly stripped and are just tubs now. I was interested in cars like mine. There are 2 Cobalt blue ones there and I know of 2 other Cobalt blues that have been flooded or parted out, so the count is down to 27 F6 Cobalt Blue coupes.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I appreciate your willingness to help me locate "the" car and would be appreciative of any leads you have to offer. Primarily I am looking for something that is mostly (but not necessarily) stock and has been cared for (i.e. like you would find on this site). Miles are not near as important as is the service history and general condition of the car as it would most likely become a garage queen and weekend driver. I am not an overly-accomplished diy'er when it comes to large items but but minor issues are expected and can be dealt with. Since I still have two young kids (who I want to include in the fun), a coupe is preferred. I also prefer a 6-speed with any exterior and ideally a two-tone interior (great thing about 968s are the variety of colors you can find, but the classics are great too--hard to go wrong). Now, I would be downright giddy if I could bring back the Aventurine Green over cashmere

I have been down to OK Foreign several times but have not had the guts to check out the dead 968s yet. Maybe when I am in the market for parts, or with somebody I can learn from and cry with (jg968), my perspective will change.

Thanks for the well wishes Langley, I love the relationship I have with my son and hope that we can be as close as you have been with your Dad. I appreciate your comments about having fun with the search...sometimes the anticipation is as much fun as the destination.
