As Jay has just posted, I have joined the ranks in the "owner" category to help to keep 968Forums.com alive and kicking. I thought that perhaps I should provide a bit of information for those of you who haven't heard much about me.
I live in Canning, Nova Scotia in Canada in a village with a population of about 500 or so. In Canning I am also known as the Baron of Bugtussle (Bugtussle being chosen from the old Beverly Hillbillies show as a name for a community with a store). When I moved here in 2003 I felt that the community needed a leader and, since I was afraid that I might not get elected as a village representative, I should simply appoint myself as a Baron. It was a lot easier, required no approvals, posters or meetings, and it has worked well for me.
I joined 968Forums.com some years ago when I bought my first 968, a white 1992 6 speed coupe with 150,000 km and far too much neglect. I then bought a 92 blue cab auto that had only 37,000 km when I got it - it was near perfect. Before that I had a 1968 944 and subsequent to the 968s I have owned a 2006 Cayenne, a 2008 Cayman S, a 2009 Carrera 4S cab and now have a 2013 Cayenne diesel. Sadly, I no longer have a 968. I wish that I had kept the blue cab.
I have a small company called Design1 Indoor Environmental Inspections (sorry Bob, I lifted that first part from you) where I help homeowners, property managers and governments deal with what I call sadness, misery and despair - aka mould, asbestos, rodents, ventilation and odours. I have been doing that for about 34 years. Previously I was a biological oceanographer and a limnologist specialising in plankton communities.
I bought into this with Jay for a few reasons. One of them was simply that I like to follow the posts every day and did not want to see them go away. I felt that the end was near unless something was done soon. The idea of joining a "group" of many with all of the attendant bureaucracy seemed to me to be of limited interest. I knew Jay from a few times we met at a 968 Celebration in Newtown and once when he was here and thought that a group of two would likely make more sense. Jay was in agreement with this. At least for now as it got the job done in time. In this case, the needs of the few - and the one - outweighed the needs of the many.
So, that's me. I have met some you - as a Bilbo said "I know less than half of you less than half as well I should". Or at something like that. I encourage any of you with suggestions to contact me - I can take both the good and the bad and hold my feet to the fire if I seem too dictatorial. I will try hard to be essentially invisible.
Cheers to all!
