Hello from Washington, DC
#1

Hello,

I'm Gary. I'm 24. I've owned my black '92 968 coupe for almost 3 years now. I've taken very good care of it and certainly enjoy driving it in and around DC with the exception of the terrible road conditions. I have tracked and auto-crossed it a few times with the local club. Sadly I was rear-ended leaving work last month, but I'm certainly looking forward to a brand new coat of paint! I thought I would join this forum to get some tips on restoration of a few minor details (automatic locks, passenger side window switches, etc), to see how many other people are actually proud of this car, and really what they do to keep them up in tip top shape. Perhaps some day I would like to change out the wheels, take out a few parking dings, and maybe redo the weather stripping. The car is still factory original.

Welcome Gary,

You'll find pretty much everything there is to know about the 968 here. There's quite a few of us around the VA/MD/DC area as well as a little east and north close by and we get together frequently. Keep an eye out...in fact, even though it's getting late in the season, I still may try to put together my annual fall shindig. Even if not, I'd love to meet up, say "hi" and see your car. I've got window switches!!

Hey, another local.

Welcome to the forums. The problem with driving around DC is the lack of gear use. I'm guessing gears 4-6 see very little action. Nice to hear that you track the car from time to time.

Welcome,

Congratualtions on the longest screen name ever invented for this site , what line of work are you in?

Feel free to read and ask, and by all means don't miss any oppotunity to meet the great 968 folks in your area.

Regards,

Jay

Thanks Darryl & rhudeboy, appreciate the welcome & the info.

Jay - I'm in the consultant for a contractor like a lot of people here. Ans as for the long screen name..well I went shoreside after a few hiccups in my commercial seagoing / military career.

I can't really get a lot of high gear action in town..stay in the lower gears mainly just to keep from getting cut off. Mine's actually a 4 spd tip. Not as sporty as the manual, but it's definitely better than driving a Toyota or a Honda. The only thing I notice is people driving on the beltway or on city streets have a hard time seeing me. A Pilot driver even clipped my driver's side mirror in Baltimore this summer and it's still not completely repaired (mainly because the body shop I was sent to didn't know what they were doing..I've learned my lesson since. I'm planning on taking it to my regular mechanic to finally finish it..the mirror glass is loose and the control actuator is out. Eventually I would like to figure out what's up with the passenger window switch. Thanks Darryl for the offer. I'm getting lot's of free service lately...just 3 weeks ago I was rear ended at a stop sign leaving work...only minor damage but you know how that goes.

Perhaps the letters "P O R S C H E" is a subconscious target...

merchantmarine- Welcome ! I know how you feel about about being invisible. I think it's the black color and low profile that causes people to overlook us on the road. Watch out ! I am always dodging cars and trucks.

Darryl- Let's do some kind of meet up before I am snowed in !! Maybe a 968 Octoberfest

Thanks, good to know I'm not the only one who's noticed that.
