Hello from VA
#1

Hi all,

I am a new Porsche owner. Never had one before. I recently purchased a single owner 1993 968 Cab from Florida with only 59K miles on it. The car is Midnight Blue with a Cream leather interior. The previous owner installed a lot of interior upgrades like new Sirius Sat Stereo, new leather seats, and trim package and new roof.

Really never owned a vehicle like this but always dreamed of having one. So I will probably be asking some pretty basic questions so please bare with me till I get more familiar with the car.

Thanks all,

Be sure and read up on all the maintenance items...in particular;

Caster Blocks
Heater Control Valve
Spare DME Relay
Clutch Inspection Port Plug
Fix your leaky power steering hose (Passenger side)

Just for starters.

Find a good shop for repairs (given your location I bet Cosimo can help you out)

Begin looking for mods (and I KNOW you wil find help for those here).

Enjoy your new ride!

Not really first sports car. I have had a Trans Am back in the day when they were cool. This is my first Euro sports car and I am loving it. I posted one pic here.

Great car

Wow, that is awesome. Good to know. Thanks for the offer. I will probably take you up on that someday. I will be looking for a decent mechanic I guess eventually.

I am in the Ashburn area so we are really close by.

Here is another pic.

Seems like everyone likes to see pics

Thanks Darryl, I'll probably have a ton of dumb questions on simple things to begin with.

Like oil changes to begin with. How do you get that oil filter out without spilling oil all over the side of then engine.? First time I've seen this type of oil filter and a local garage that specializes in Porsche's just asked me for $125.00 for an oil change. Sounds pretty high to me.

I'll add one more pic

Best color combo IMO. Like the cluster rings and roll bar.

I'm a bit "biased" as I work with IMA Motorsport but that's who I would recommend. I have been a customer of Ivan since '92. They are located in Chantilly. With the filter, 5 quarts of synthetic oil and labor $125 is typical for our cars. I can give you a 10% discount at IMA if you want to do it there. I don't mean to sound like a shill for IMA. We will be there this Saturday working, so if you want to stop by let me know.

5 quarts of Mobil 1 @ $7 is $35, filter $10, labor @100/hour 1/2 to 3/4 hr , the total is $100. Certainly that is within range. Doing yourself is cheaper no doubt. I know you can find places to do it for less. At IMA we also do an inspection of the car while it's on the lift. That's worth something.

Ron,

I think Flash was asking where this individual purchased his 968, notice the "Chasis Stiffener"? (Wonder if that was sold as a feature?)

Sorry, I thought you meant my comment on the pricing for the oil change. I have been in a bit of bad mode as I have been waiting to get a problem fixed on my Garmin and had been on hold for 3 hrs. Boy, they seem to have to worse hold time for tech support of anyone.
