Hello from the Windy City
#1

Hi everyone,

I hail from Chicago, IL USA.

I found this forum by reading R.L.... I fell for the 968 when I saw one in my neighborhood almost 2yrs ago and have been seeking one ever since. I am trying to find a Cabriolet 6spd. It would be my first car purchase ever... having driven hand me downs for the last 10+ years. Would also be my first manual.

This being my first car purchase, I am trying to find one just-right for my needs. So i'll be reading the classifieds, and checking any DIY/maintenance posts I can find.

BTW: for your international members - The Windy City is not designated because of mother nature, but rather the politicians. Nevertheless, it's one of the most amazing cities, having some amazing diversity, restaurants, history, and famous persons. If you're wanting to visit, let me know and I help you have a great time.

Welcome...I am in Forest Park. Just bought a 968 last week. So you have never owned a car before and never driven a manual transmission and live in Chicago and want a 968 manual convertible?

I hope you know how to repair cars....otherwise it could lead you down a wrong path.....but good luck!

Don't listen to Paul, go for your dream. Of course it will cost you money but that's ok! Lol. Welcome. Look carefully and be patient. Fall is a good time to look.

Hello Paul,

Congratulations on your 968!

Good points above, I'm not hard-fixed on those, it all depends on whether my current deal goes through I guess.

I have owned 2, but I want to emphasize, this time I'll drive a car that I choose and want. I'm okay with basic repairs like: brakes, sensors, plugs, oil. I have a garage too and a good variety of sockets, so that helps.

I'm approx. 20miles away. I used to work out there. If all goes well, next week I'll be out of state, inspecting my new 968 and driving it home.

Thanks, and I welcome the critique. It's been about 2 yrs now that I've focused on the 968, and I started by liking the Cabriolet, then learnt about the CS and performance side of it favoring the coupe (I guess it usually does). The only thing I haven't done is bought the thing.

Today, I'm really close to getting one, because I realize I'm in an okay position financially to own one.

By all means, keep the feedback coming!

The CS was a special edition "Club Sport" coupe, unavailable in the U.S. (Just don't want you to think every coupe is a CS.)
