Hello from the Sunshine State
#1

Hi everyone. PCA member and enthusiast here...

About a year ago I relocated to the Tampa Bay Area after 35 years in Ohio. The move forced me to sell my 944 Turbo which I have stated to miss now that life has become normal again. My wonderful wife came across a copy of Peter Morgan's book with the yellow 968 on the cover and gave it to me to ease my sorrow. It's hard to ignore the look of the 968 and while I always planned to find another 944 Turbo, I have started to research 968s instead. Kind of tough to find desirable coupes (or cabriolets with a back seat). But the search is part of the fun.

Thanks for allowing me on the site

Welcome Scott.  FYI, cabs didn't come with a back seat option, none to be had.  But coupes are better anyway Tongue

US cabs may not have come with a rear seat, but it can be done... my wife wants me to do this for the dogs

If u remove the rear cubby, the back is sculpted like rear seats and covered with carpet. Should be good enuf for the dogs. I had my rear seat area like this for a couple years when I was searching for the padded cover that fits the Cabriolet.my daughter sat comfortably on the carpet with an added back pillow, but now it's great having the actual rear seat.there are pictures posted in another thread on the forum

I have a 94 cab that I installed a rear seat into. It was not that big a job. After doing lots of reading it probably only took 2-3 hours of actual work.

Thanks everyone! Great welcome from all.

I did see one Cab with a back seat about nine years ago.  It was a 1992 model and the owner said the car was ordered by the dealer that way originally, but there was so little interest in it that Porsche dropped it for the 1992 model year.  Seems plausible, but I will defer to the enthusiasts here.

I wish I only had to take my dog, but my boys are 4 and 6, they love cars.  They will gleefully wake up early on Saturday and go to cars and coffee with me or watch an F1 race.  I need belts at least.  Or a Coupe!

Canadian cars came with a back seat, so the parts exist, you may have to do some searching, and even then , may have to have them reupholstered.

The parts aren't as difficult to find as you might think. The seat cushion from 944S2 cabs will obviously work, but so will the lower seat portion from any 944 with the split back upper seats. The seat I got was from a 944 coupe that had the split upper seat backs and it fits perfectly.

Jay's point about reupholstery is correct and dependent on what year 968 you get and what color your interior design is. The front seats for the 1992 through the early 1994 968s match the 944s so the back seat patterns will match correctly if you can get the same color. For the late 1994 and all 1995 968s the front seats match the 993s and have a different upholstery pattern, and the 968 coupes rear seats only had the upper folding backs plus two individual little cushions for the butt portion of the seat bottoms. Perhaps you could make the coupe butt pad cushions work but I've never seen nor heard of anyone doing that. Another alternative for the later cars is to use the early style rear seat bottoms. They aren't a perfect match but unless someone is knowledgeable or really anal most people won't even notice as long as they're the same color.

For my cab I got a cobalt blue 944s2 rear seat even though my car has the midnight blue interior. It's not a perfect match but you have to have the right light for a casual viewer to even notice. Having the back seat in there has really helped on several occasions when I've has both of my daughters in the car, and a couple of times I've even had one of their friends along for a full complement of 4 occupants.

Definitely don't be too worried about this modification.
