Hello from Plön, Germany
#1

I actually just moved to Germany. I'm British, but I've lived in various places, including London, the Netherlands, and Texas.

I have 1993 blue coupe, which was originally a Japanese car. It's a bit tatty, but seems OK so far.

Welcome Duncan,

Where in Germany are you? We have a pretty active bunch of 968 guys in the Netherlands, maybe you can come to one of our tinker saturdays?

Hi Johann,

Plön is a very pretty place, but it's in the North, quite close to Denmark. And quite far from the Netherlands, unfortunately. However, I'm sure you guys will be able to help me find good sources for parts. As I don't yet speak German (I'm working at an English-speaking scientific research institute), looking online is quite difficult. At the moment I'm trying to find the little plastic cup that the ball at the bottom of the gear shift stick inserts into. My gear stick is loose and rattles. Pelican has the part here:

but of course it is very expensive to ship such a cheap thing to Europe.

cheers
Duncan

To save you from the wrath of the moderators You are only allowed to introduce yourself and your car in this topic.

So let's pretend you did not post anything about looking for a part.

DId you bring your car from the UK or did you buy it in Germany?

I bought the car in the UK. It's a Japanese import, so it is left hand drive. This might seem strange, because Japan drives on the left, but apparently having a foreign built car is a mark of status in Japan so they prefer the steering wheel on the wrong side to make them more conspicuous against the masses of Toyotas and Hondas! Anyway, it's in really nice condition, although mechanically it may have been a little neglected - lots of rattles to track down. I had a compression test and a variocam chain inspection before I bought it though.

This is my first Porsche. I've had 3 Mazda MX5s (I love these cars), a Lotus Elise, a Rover Mini Cooper, and a few boring cars. I guess the 968 is the fastest (in a straight line, anyway - the Lotus would detroy it in corners!).

Cheers Duncan
