Hello from Paris, France
#1

Happy to join your community, as an owner of one '92 944 cab (since two years) ... and one '968 killer' '94 M3 E36 (since 16 years) !! Always liked the 968 design, especially front part (maybe is it the reason why I am seriously looking at 993 these days ...). Thanks for the welcome !

welcome - i'd be willing to bet that you will find a bunch of guys here who will disagree with you about your "968 killer". 968s regularly trounce E36 M3s on the track. even though the numbers may say otherwise in 1/4 mile and such, in real application, the 968 does a lot better.

while you are more than welcome here, i have to ask though, if you have a 944, and are looking at a 993 rather than a 968, why come here? we really don't discuss 944s or 993s here.

1) Was there a 1992 944 cab? I thought they stopped the 944 in 1991 and followed with the 968 in 1992.

2) I challenge your BMW to a race...drive over here and we'll find out

Guys, the euro E36 M3 3L engines made 282 hp and the later 3.2L engines made 316 hp! The weenie US engines made only 240hp so that 968's might keep up.

Well, many questions/challenges !

968 killer : M3 was so called, because following its launch, 968 sales drop and it was said to be responsible for 968 phase out. And regarding performances, you can't compare the two : balance for the 968, engine for the bimmer (don't forget the specs difference between EUR & US M3s).

Why coming here : because ... never say never and 944 S2 is so close from 944 S3, sorry, I meant 968 ...

1992 944 cab : my car was built end of 1991 and sold here on may '92.

Challenge : why not you guys coming here in France !!

Hope it will answer !

Well, the 3L engine was 286 HP and 321 for the 3.2.

what killed the 968 was its price tag. there were just too many cars out there for less money that on the street performed as well or better.

as for the ROW E36 M3 versions, i guess i never really focused on those, as i really hated almost everything about that car, inside and out, and consequently did not keep track of higher output versions. i loved the E30, and really liked the E46, but the E36 just didn't do it for me. it's a lot about how it drives. the car just doesn't connect with the driver like the 968 does. from the really sloppy shifting and spongy vague clutch, to the silly amount of body roll, to the ridiculously soft steering. the lower rocker panels are a complete aesthetic disaster, and the front end of the car lost all of its elegance the E30 had. you couldn't pay me to have one, no matter how much other guys love them.

but then, this is a 968 site, and i really don't want to blather on about BMWs
