Hello to all, it's like being 17 again
#1

Just fulfilled one of my lifetime dreams of owning a Porsche. When I was back in college I visited a local mechanic who always had many Porsches in various states of disrepair and told him of my wish to own the dream. He looked me over and said I better get a 944 turbo which was relativley inexpensive, easy to drive and was tough as nails. 25 years later I took that advice but realized a 968 was cooler, prettier, packed more punch and still met my budget constraints.
Ended up on a whim with a '92 Coral Red, Cabrio, with tipronic and 68k miles. I am in love and luckily my wife has not kicked me to the curb. I drove her(the car not my wife) home from CT to DE last Friday before the big storm here in the northeast and had a blast on the Turnpike testing the low end of her limits. What fun! like riding a bullet. ,
In the past week I've attended to a few little neglected things and have a ton of annoying newbie questions which I hope you will bear with me as learn everything possible about my new toy.
I don't know how active or enthusiastic this forum is but I hope that I can meet some of you and we can share good times, and experiences along with our passion for the greatest car ever made! I've got the first round.

Congratulations on your 968!
I also gave myself a "Merry Christmas present to me" gift of a 968 CV (Horizon Blue). Now my wife is envious of the time I spend on this forum! I tell her that I need to learn as much as possible about the 968 so I can take care of the new "baby".

Thanks to all for the warm welcome, and invitations to future events. I hope to meet as many of you as possible. I've been spending every possible moment pouring through this site trying to read every thread. It is such a great resource. I've already learned so much. Especially considering there really is not that many other outlets for the 968. And although I owned her for only a few weeks, I'm starting to feel a bit of responsibility to keep her well and on the road for many years to come. The 968 is a rare bird and the numbers are dwindling every day. We all belong to a special club. That will either bring us together in a bond stronger than most other auto forums or we'll end up slitting each others throats to get one of the few remaining so and so part.

I've always wanted to go to Hershey and now I have a really good reason. Just have to get the better half involved. She's been very reasonable about the whole purchase thing, she even said the car was "cute". A very good sign. If I can make it to the summer and drive her around with the top down I think she'll be sold. Hopefully there will be no repair bills between now and then.

Langley968 congrats on your Xmas present. Drive it in good health. Pretty damn exciting Huh?

going to the hershey swap meet can be fun, and so can wife-swapping, but isn't selling her a bit over the top? maybe just renting her out?

repair bills, i get that - i am constantly wondering what the heck she has to go to the doctor for now

oh wait.........................never mind

lol - sorry - had an emily litella moment there

Selling her is not out of the question, if the price is right. Just remember there is no warranty and defiantly no returns.

Definately bring the wife. My wife has about a 2 hour patience level with the "Porsche stuff" but she has made friends with everyone and now looks forward to socializing with our friends who happen to share our 968 "sickness". Also, she has made, massage, nails, etc. appointments at past events so she can do her thing and I do mine.

If I may reccomend, buy a windscreeen...your wife will appreciate not being blown around in the cab. It also reduces the whning noise that sometimes comes from the passenger seat .

Looking forward to Hershey already, 2" of snow this morning.

That is a cool car. I saw you picked it up on eBay. I told the seller that the car was one of 10 produced in that color so it is pretty rare too. Good luck with it.

Yeah, got her off the bay. Kinda chancy, either a great little gem or a POS. For what I paid I figured I could dump 3-4k if needed into her and still be in decent shape total cost wise. Come early spring I'll take her to the local wrench and have a full check up. The seller mentioned talking to someone from the Registry about the car, I guess that was you. Cool. 10 with the Coral, 6 with the Tip.
At first I was not sure about the color. The pics in the listing were washed out and it really looked kinda wimpy. However, in person it really is beautiful. As others have mentioned about this color it seems to morph with the lighting. In my garage at night it looks a stunning cinnamon. Other times orange shows through. Since I'm approaching 50, and losing my hair, if it had been the guards red with the cabrio option it might have been a little too stereotypical for my liking
You have all been so nice that I eagerly look forward to meeting you at Hershey. I'll have to search the posts for past info re hotels et al. I will defiantly bring the wife. She's the social one out us two. I'm the grumpy wall flower. However getting the opportunity to see all those other 968's I just might come out of my shell a bit.
