Hello from Millerton, NY
#1

Hi, My name is Mark. I live in Millerton, NY. Have a "92 coupe, red. Owned if for 25 years. Bought it from the President of the Orange County Porsche club who bought it for his wife. She didn't like it so I bought it from him. Enjoying it. Has been reliable for many years, few issues: mice ate some of the wires in the drivers door which kept the window from operating. Easy fix. Drivers door handle mechanism broke - fixed that. Front windshield motor died a few years ago and was replaced. Recently went to have a timing belt change out but mechanic told me to get a new timing belt tensioner - no luck - Porsche discontinued them and there don't seem to be any other sources that I can find. Does anyone know where I can buy one?

Also, seems that my fuel pump is not getting current and car will not kickover. Does anyone know what might cause this? Is the security system connected to the fuel pump relay in some way?? Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

Looking forward to reading the posts.

Hi welcome

Post your questions in the right place and Im sure we can help you

But for the tensioner, there are no more, I have spoken to Aisin directly

They made the initial run for Porsche of 20,000 Porsche never ordered any more, the moulds and dies have been destroyed

The tensioners dont fail, no idea why it would need replacing, There are cars with 250,000 km on them with the original part

I had to replace mine back in 2014. I think what happens is they get corroded from sitting. Thats what happened to mine.

Some enterprising fellow needs to figure out how to rebuild them or were all screwed, eventually.

It's a good idea to have a spare DME relay in your glove compartment. If you don't have one, get one.

Swap the current one with the new one and see if that fixes your problem. Also a big fan of the glow fuses. They glow when blown and it makes it easy & quick to see if/when one has blown.

So, hello and best wishes with the 968.
