Hello from Malta
#1

Hello my name is Tony. I Captain private yachts for a living. I'm based in Malta, but I call Florida my home.

I'm here to learn more about the 968. My boss has one he wishes to sell. I believe he has done quite a few tasteful upgrades. I'm either going to try to help him sell it just for kudos, or consider it for myself. I've read great reviews about the handling of the 968. The car in question is in Jacksonville FL, and I will get more info. I do know the car has been worked on by a very well known Porsche engine builder in the Jacksonville area. I think he is more frustrated dealing with a builder and wants to be more turn key.

I'm probably going to be more of a lurker and use the search button, as many of my questions will likely have been covered.

The 968 appears to be more of an enthusiasts car, so I'm sure I'll run into some smart chaps on here

I may get flamed for this, but I do own a 98 6sp turbo supra with very low miles. I've done my own work, and learned most from the forums of that car. There are alot of kids on there, but also alot of amart guys with some interesting stables. I'm mainly stating this because I'm pretty good regarding turbo systems, tuning, and keeping a car reliable/functional.

If anyone knows of a specialist consignment dealer I will pass the info on. He wants to try a 996. He is a yacht Captain as well, and we are pretty particular regarding our boats, and toys. From what have seen in his other cars I would suspect his 968 to be pretty clean if not perfect.

I hear ya. The ZO6 Vette is a pretty good bang for the buck. Most of the.... ahem.... mature Supra guys are moving the the 996 for value, quality, and reliable 600hp potential.

I have stupid fast already after buying into the hype with the Supra. May just tone it back down a tick or two as well. I sold my non turbo hardtop supra that was much more rewarding at 230hp. I'm either going to help my boss sell his, or I buy it, if it is tastefully/reliably modified. Hey that reliable world keeps popping up.

I do know that the car is turboed. I dare not say that it is a turbo as those were only sold in Europe as I have read. Also, I know he was interested in doing a transmission swap to a manual. That may be a works in progress thing, and could affect value being it was a tiptroninc then changed.

I'm aquiring information on said car, and will move to another forum section. Uber smart people stay tuned.

We just had a good discussion here about the great Japanese cars of the early 90's and the Supra is what started it. This is not a snobbish closed minded group. Lots of respect is given to deserving cars past and present.

Actually, Id like to see pics of your Supra.

Are you saying the 968 your friend has is a 968 tip that has been turbocharged?
Sounds pretty interesting. A manual swap is not the complicated, but will not
be on the cheap side.
If one were to consider a manual swap, it may best to buy a wrecked 968 so
most of the hardware can be had in one shot.

RS motor, and a 5 speed swap.

Here is a link to the car on the builders web site. The asking price is what the builder put up without David's authorization. David has over 45k into the car, and wanted 28k. Kinda steep in any economy. I convinced him to keep it, and enjoy his efforts for a tad. So the ad on the site will be pulled, but you guys should check it out before it goes away. It is a really nice car. I did manage to get first right of refusal in the future.

More importantly I told him to get on this forum, and he would probably enjoy his car alot more.

I think I may lurk awhile. I'm liking this 968, and you guys are alright.
