Hello from Lilburn, GA - right next to the Stone Mountain!
#1

Hello all 968 enthusiast and owners!

I am Rod here in Lilburn GA right next to the piece of granite called Stone Mountain.  I can hear the fireworks every night when they do their Laser Light Show - if ever in Atlanta, Georgia for a visit, the Laser light show is an awesome event each evening for the family.  If you ever seen the tribute to the confederate generals sculpture on the side of the mountain - the light shows brings them back to life...I am not an advocate for the confederacy, but i do like the show.

I do own a 1995 968 that is Blue with Tan interior and I am about to bring him back to life - he has been sitting for 3 years, but guess what, I bought a battery and he started right up.  He needs a water pump, but ready to get everything together and tear him down and bring him back with all updated parts for best recommended practices while he is broke down to change the water pump.

I can't wait to ride on teh roads again and take a trip with him rolling and listening to my sound system - its like being in a sound room while driving - yes it might get a little loud...nothing like listening to some blues, rap, classic rock and jazz.  I look forward to all the exchanges of information and insight to gain more ideals and recommended practices to help preserve the performance of my classic sports car - I am to old and scared to test him to an extreme, we just rolling and listening to good music - those mountain rides though get kind of exciting!

Welcome, and concurring with your gender assignment of the 968 as a “he” in spite of the conventional way of referring to cars with a feminine denomination.. maybe ok for Miatas, VW beetles, etc, but the 968 is a dude !   IMHO .

we have names for all our cars,

Black XC60 "AJ" (Antony Joshua) its big and black

968 "Madge" short for your majesty, as it gets treated like royalty apparently

White A4 "Chaz"  because it was delivered with CHZ as the last three letters on the reg plate

Honda V4 "Ghost" as we very rarely see it out the garage.

is it a thing in the US to name your cars or is it just a British quirk

No idea..   I have not heard any of my “ car guys / gear head “ friends or anyone else I know for that matter,  giving their cars any names, but they might have and it just has not come up in conversation.   Typically they all refer to their cars by either the brand name or the model name ...as do I.  Or “ it “ in a different context .  But I do hear people refer to cars as “ she “  ( she’s a beauty , or she’s a clean machine, or she’s fast , etc.).  And I’m aware of the origin of calling  boats, cars, planes, and other machinery that way, but I find it a bit silly assigning a gender  to an inanimate object ( ok, no wives jokes please !   )

Our cars are in California , so I can only refer to them by the gender with which they, themselves choose to identify , so as not to offend them, and only if they identify as non-binary, I can continue with “it”  Rolleyes
