Hello from Iowa
#1

Hi all, my name is Zach and I recently purchased the Cobalt Blue 1992 Tiptronic Coupe that was on eBay a month and a half ago. A friend (986boxster1998) and I drove it back 1200 miles from the east coast to Iowa, and it drove flawlessly. The car now has 155k and still runs well. Upon receiving the car we also got all the service records since 2004 totaling over $8000 including flex plate and timing belt/water pump done in the last 10k miles. It needed a good cleaning and still needs buffed to look good. I also am planning on having it repainted next spring. Mechanically it is in awesome shape, with one minor vibration at 1500 rpm which sounds like a heat shield rattling. The car's interior is classic grey and came with Heated Sport Seats which condition are 6.5-7/10 in my opinion and 17" C2 Turbo (C2 Turbo (Cup 1)) wheels. The tiptronic is actually really nice, and perfect for a daily driver, which this will be. I originally wanted a 6 speed, but the technology behind the tiptronic was years ahead of other brands. When driving normal, you can not even feel the gear changes, it is that smooth.

I also recently purchased a set of stock 16" 968 wheels which I just put blizzaks on, and a set of 18" oem solid turbo twists. I am really looking forward to seeing the blue with turbo twists next spring.

I definitely have some questions, and will not be afraid to ask in the forums. This isn't my first Porsche, I had an 84 944 that I replaced a cylinder head on and resold, and an 83 944 that I parted out, but I really prefer the 85.5+ interior.

Also, I would like to thank Jeff968 for the information he gave me about the car before I took possession of it. It was invaluable and he is quite the asset to the 968 world.

Cobalt968 - What Jeff probably didn't tell you is that of the 31 Cobalt Blue coupes, I know 2 are dead in the Oklahoma Foreign Porsche grave yard. Another wrecked one was parted out last year on RL. That means that we're down to 28 maximum still on the road.

Great to have you on board! Glad to hear the Tip is working for you... I was thinking about a Tip in a Cab, just for summer cruising, for tthe wife. Cheaper than having her trash the MB SL Silver Arrow! Can't afford to keep replacing the AMG front bodywork!!! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/whine.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Wow, that is interesting.

This one is 1 of 2 Cobalts that are classic grey with a tip. The other was sent to Canada so I have the only one in the US I think. The heated sport seats rock, and so do the 17" cup 1s. Plan on buffing it this weekend to see if I can get it looking any better. It has some clear coat issues. Mostly discoloration, and not peeling.

About the tip, I have owned a 01 Audi TT 225, a 03 Z4 3.0, and a 04 330ci all with 6 speeds. For a weekend driver I definitely like the 6 speed. For every day and not having a different car in the winter, I am thinking the tip is a better choice. It also sounds REALLY nice because the tip keeps you in the revs longer, since you are not shifting it at 3k rpm.
