Hello from Encino California!
#1

I recently bought a 92 968 cab with 117k miles and no service history.

I also bought a quick jack lift for my garage and have started stripping the engine to replace the front end seals, timing belt and timing chain.

I havent wrenches on a classic car in quite some time but I bought this car so I could have a project. Nice to find this forum!

Welcome. Watch those balance shafts, they like to wander when you are getting the belt situated. Also watch the tension, most people set them up too tight the first few times.

Check out the new owner maintenance list on the other thread about alternator wiring. Lots of information to consider on there.

Welcome!!1.....you might want to replace water pump and all rollers now that you are at it. I am glad this is your first project. I did the same, had no service records either.

Welcome Brad, and I've just completed similar work myself (no seals as they were not leaking) .... including, as recommended, the water pump. You really should do this else you'll be doing the same belt work again in an unnecessarily short space of time.  Here is a good reference for a lot of the work (https://clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/eng-14.htm) even though I may get castigated for recommending an alternate site (944s  :whine:  :whine: ) .... the step-by-step guide is very useful.  The 968 doesn't need the belt tension tool, and you can make up a balance shaft sprocket holder from a much cheaper tool (about Euro15).  The flywheel lock is not expensive, and if you are going to keep the 968 long term (highly recommended Rock  Rock ) then it doesn't take up much room on the shelf and doesn't wear out. I hope this helps.

Glad to see another 968 in the "San Fernando Valley" area.  Let me know if you have any questions. Though I have to admit, I have not done the belt yet. It is due in 2020.
